Badgers are doing better than almost any other of our wild animal species. I looked at a map of their distribution and they are everywhere in the uk in huge numbers these days. They are overpopulating and I think this is why they are getting more competitive and fighting.

Aren't you all lucky. I see 1 badger sett on my cross country walks is all but that's it. Badgers are no harm once you don't stuff them down your trousers or something daft

Numbers around here have gone through the roof , I had a disagreement with the local badger group ,,,, they told me that there would only be 10 to 15 stripey on our patch as that is all that amount of land would hold ,,,,, told them they were talking bollocks because we have a number approaching 200 , 200 stripeys are a serious headache in my business

Don't forget it's illegal to harm stripeys , not worth the risk , with eyes everywhere and everyone with a camera on them is it worth a stretch in prison

Hereford

Badgers are unique amongst protected species in that they are not protected for any conservation reason. They are protected soley in an attempt to stop badger baiting.

This poses a problem as they uesd to be controlled ad-hoc and are now not.

It's a case of using a slegehammer to crack a nut.

It also doesn'y hep that townies seem to think they are loveley cuddly things who mind their own business. Really, they could do with being reclassified as "special vermin" that you can obtain a ticket to shoot, like herons and cormorants - Natural England issue licenses to control thos in situations where their populations have been artificially elevated by man - ie fish farms.
