Just watching Katherine Ryan on Comedy Central and seriously, finding it hard to breathe, she's too funny for words.

Favourites include Michael McIntyre for the prancing, Eddie Izzard for the surrealism, Billy Connolly for the fabulously sharp observations and Bill Bailey. Because Bill Bailey.

Who makes your mascara run, your breath sob and your stomach hurt (but in a good way), and why?

Saw him support Kevin Bridges, he was the worst comedian I've seen and I go to a lot of comedy. Playing a gig in Scotland and his routine was about UKIP, and the English education system, both equally irrelevant to his audience.

He's the kind of comedian that you need to have the same sense of humour as to really enjoy the same goes for Tommy tiernan and Jim Jeffries.

I would disagree, playing a gig in Glasgow and doing a gig about UKIP is about as relevant as doing a gig based on the plight of a deep sea fisherman in a land locked country.

You need to know your audience and tailor your stuff to it, it just came across as someone that had a routine and you will sit and listen no mater what.

Having said that Tommy Teirnan is a good shout.

I can't say how pleased I am to see Ian Cognito mentioned in this thread. The last time I saw him he totally dominated the entire room, knowing just how far he could push it and keep the audience. He was incredible, although I can see why he's banned from more venues than anyone else in the industry.

My personal favourite is Peter Brush, who does wonderfully clever routines that are incredibly well thought out. If you like Yes Minister, then you'll like him.

Nick Page is another good one. He is an exceptionally gifted story teller, who just builds massive amounts of momentum whilst he relates the latest episode in his life.

John Scott is always worth a look, he's a very sharp political comedian who seems to manage to stay down to earth, make good points and be very funny all at the same time.

Thomas Green is a man to watch for the future, he has the combination of sharp routines, performance skills and charisma that will make him big if he gets a break.

When I get back from the fringe I may add a few names to this list.

Oh, I forgot Daniel Kitson, but he's on totally different level. In the industry he is generally regarded as being head and shoulders above any other British comedian. He never advertises his shows, has done nothing on telly since a bad experience with Phoenix Nights, avoids any kind of publicity, yet his shows sell out within minutes.

I've only seen him the once and he was awesome. What he was doing was so simple and straight forwards in many ways, yet still somehow 5 steps above anyone else. He has a gift.
