Sometimes men message me and use the term 'babe', I don't really like it, tho cdnt put my finger on why exactly, I just find it off putting.

Anyway was wondering why men use it, what is it implying?

E.g I once saw a theory that men who are seeing quite a few women use it as they can't remember/ can't be bothered to remember all the names, or so they don't get them mixed up...

I like terms of endearment from those I know. Strangers using them is weird and puts me off since their use comes with familiarity. I only ever call someone 'love' if I'm being sarcastic. I call people trouble or babber if I like them. Those I'm particularly close to get called all sorts. Including numnuts, fuckface and shitbag.

As others have said, I'd either use their username, or the given name on their profile or if neither of those were appropriate I'd keep it to a simple "Hi" or "Hi There" to open.

I personally just find using an endearment like "Babe" a little presumptious if you're addressing someone you haven't already got a rapport with.

Lots of people have a generic term they use and don't really think about it. They probably think it sounds friendlier than your username or nothing.

I don't have a particular problem with it as long as it's not rude.

It's a bit weird when clients at work do it though, especially if they are younger. Being called love by a 20 yr old is just wrong somehow ...

Some guy's use terms of endearment to give a sense of relationship. Put you at ease and be further down the comfort path. There was a guy here who kept messaging us on our couple account and calling me "my dearest"

it was annoying since we never messaged him back, but every two weeks we would get the same cut and paste message.

I once knew a man who called everyone 'Angel' everybody thought it was sweet and endearing. But it was because he couldn't remember names so just used that instead.

I don't have a particular problem with it as long as it's not rude.

It's a bit weird when clients at work do it though, especially if they are younger. Being called love by a 20 yr old is just wrong somehow ...

some women are to easily offended.

Terms of endearment should not be viewed as offensive.

As a guy,I am constantly being referred to as,

babe,Hun,luv,darling,etc etc.

I don't find it offensive in any way,I just accept it's that persons way.

If you think terms of endearment,are offensive,you already take your to serious.

Seems unnecessarily cynical and grumpy tbh. There so much hate in the world and people get I a twist about someone calling you mate or love. Seems silly in the grand scale.
