Too many.

The last one was a university friend last year.

Went to the post box one afternoon and inside was a letter whose handwriting I immediately recognised from my friend inviting me to his funeral.

He'd died the week before from stomach cancer and I didn't even know he was ill. :/

One of the best services I've been to. Big turn out, amazing spread of people, backgrounds, ethnicities and creeds. A tribute to an amazing man.

I know it's an odd thing to say but I've been to some great funerals. Sad, yes, but also celebrations of life and also a great reminder that life isn't a rehearsal and we need to make every day count. A reminder to love those that matter to you and live with kindness and grace.

I rarely feel quite so moved at weddings.

So do we, I have instructions from my mum about food, hymns etc and nobody is allowed to wear dark clothes or be sad .

We are viewed as odd by some people who tiptoe around the subject using strange euphemisms.

I always think it's a shame the person can't attend their own funeral (if that doesn't sound too odd!) I know my grandma would have loved nattering with all her friends and seeing all her family together

As for the question, not many, I've been lucky, and also avoided a few through working. My grandparents and a couple of others, plus a couple more where I was playing hymns but didn't know the person too well.

One of those was so so sad, a 40 something woman dying of cancer, leaving young children behind even though I didn't know her it was difficult to get through.

2 - my grandma's and my mum's

Like they say though both in this thread and often at funerals themselves, is to see it as a celebration of their life, and to be glad they were around to begin with, which is a good enough silver lining.

The priest guy made a few mistakes though when reading about her life - has anyone else had that, or noticed it as being common? I suppose they have to do them quite often and obviously don't know the person themselves so I can understand, really.

"Cant we start a thread bout fluffy kittens n puppies "

I think fluffy kittens m puppies is totally wrong and shouldn't be on a funeral thread.

Celery is absolutely fine though!

Though I really hope this thread doesn't pop into my mind at the next funeral that happens.
