This is really daft and I have just realised this.

My eldest lad went to his nans last night til saturday morning so has just been me and little one here.

I have been lonely as so used to him being here with all the arguements and fighting that comes with young kids and then trying to cook and stop them from killing each other....

Normally the day goes and I realise that I havent even been for a wee during the day sometimes,or had to stop what I have been doing to be ref.

But today we have had time,strolled into town with no harsh voices or discipline needed other than "my face"and a raised eyebrow,as thats enough for little one. Its been boring and dragged out.

Ok,am gonna say it.

I miss my son,and the argueing and fighting that comes with them both being together lol.

How sad eh to realise I feel lonely with him not being here.

Not sad or stupid. I know the feeling. My three have gone to their dads until sunday. They have left their lego buildings out. And they will still be there when they get home. I like to see the stuff they have left around. I hate the quiet and not hearing them playing and arguing. I miss the sound of my daughter slamming the doors in a strop.

So I join you in the group of being a sad lonely mum xx

My daughter moved out last year, when she and her boyfriend split, she decided to stay where she was and got a lodger, miss her terribly and gets a bit lonely when son is out

My son is in school, 120 miles away but rings or texts me every 2 days so I can have a mum moment.

The conversation today went.....

Me: I miss you son

Son: You know what I look like and you have photo's, man up mum.

Me: I'm a mother, I'm allowed to miss you. I've not seen you since the summer.

Son: I have a social life mum (girlfriend) and I talk to you every other day.

Me: I know, but you could bloody well come home in the holidays.

Son: Be happy I've got mates and always out, it's made me independant.

Me: Yes but it would be nice to see you sometimes.

Son: I see you everyday mum, I've got you on my friends list on facebook (oh woopy dooo for technology.

Son: Anyway, if I have the choice between spending time with you or Becky, Becky is gonna win. She's got tits I can play with without it being illegal!!!

Me: cough, splutter, aaarrrrggghhhh

Son: Love you mum....... (rings off laughing)

I didn't know whether to laugh or go to his school and box his bloody ears.

He'll be home at some point before christmas, so I can take him shopping and he'll need new outfits for the zillion and one parties he's been invited to.

oh that's a difficult one for you and him. I persisted in a difficult marriage until my youngest was nearly 18 cos I wanted them to enjoy both parents. It wasn't easy but I am glad I did it. Grandchild coming soon.

I do see him whenever I get the time but not the same as when you live under the same roof and its never a good feeling when you have to say 'Good bye' .

It can feel like he is missing out , more for him then myself.

And then you have the resentment for the ex .

Thats life , eh .

I adore my kids and just because they are scattered all over the country and the girls are adults, I would still do anything for them.

Having a whinge about the cost is just one of those things that mums are allowed to do.........it's in the rules!

After a day of total mayhem akin to WW3 in our house yesterday between father and daughter,both fiesty personalities that either love or hate in a matter of seconds...........I wake up from a night shift today to find them both laying each end of the sofa sharing some starburst and lovingly putting the wrappers between each others toes

My son went off to the usa 5 yrs ago and i have had two emails since he went.

And yerrr miss him dreadfully every day

Thanks everyone for all the messages.

Nice to see that I am not the only mum who feels it when the kids are not here.

Also for the dads whose children live with the mums. To all them men who make the effort every weekend or every other,I salute you.Its the men who miss their kids and are still dads to the fullest I admire. My ex has now admitted to me after 5 years he feels like an uncle to our eldest son. But he isnt one of those dads that being a dad is soooo important. It is his loss and he does realise that now.

I could not be without my children and refuse to. God help me when they get to leaving home age.

I have always known that being a mum(nanny by trade) is my role in life and would ideally love to adopt more one day when my boys are older and more settled.

It might be hard, but the benefit to the kids is enormous.

I often take afternoons with one or the other child....having mommy/daughter mommy/son days.

it re-affirms to them that you love them and they're not so jealous or needy for attention when i'm trying to juggle them both and everything else that goes along with it xxx

that normal hun we have five kids 4 are frome lynettes other realationship and one with me each month the 4 go there dads and the house is so peacefull well if are 2yr old has her happy head on but being 2 its horrible henry time 12hrs a day but after a day you dont half miss the other 4 and sometimes we dont have any of them and the house feels so quiet its almost spooky but as soon as they are back with in hours there shouting and going mad and you wish they were back at there dads lol but thats life and would change it you only miss things you once had so no need to feel silly it happens to all of us

Since I split with my daughter's mum in 2002 I've had her over every other weekend except for when she or I has been ill or she's been on holiday with her mum.

Two years ago I moved 250 miles away and my little princess' first question when I told where I was going was, "Will I still see you Daddy?"

"Absodefolutely Princess, every other weekend, same as usual."

And that's what has happened since then. It's tough doing all those miles every two weeks and when I'm working away I have to divert back to her hometown no matter where I'm coming from to pick her up before continuing on to Newcastle.

We speak over the phone on the weekend I don't have her and we connect through F/B too.

The hard part of all this is that I know full well that as she is approaching her teens (she's 13 next month) the every two week thing will become once a month as she will have sleepovers, parties and things she wants to do with her friends that will take precedence over seeing her dad. I'm expecting it but it will be tough.

She has a little brother up here now (her only sibling) and she'll want to see him but they are 12 years apart and he'll just be entering his teens when she'll be settling down and maybe starting a family of her own, or travelling the world, or working abroad, or... shit, nobody mentioned parenting was gonna be so hard when they handed me a little bundle of gurgling joy 13 years ago!!
