Introverted threads?

By (user no longer on site) OP

As a relative "newbie" to the forums, i have taken the time to sit and watch and read old threads and existing ones, i am amazed how many people , especially new posters, get ignored whilst two or three regular posters post on a thread with comments that are totally unrelated to the original topic , hence the title "Introverted threads".Does anyone else find this off putting?

Side steping the introverted love in...

Yes it is off-putting at times. I don't really understand why after a few messages it can't go to PM unless its an exhibitionist thing. We haven't been here as long as a lot but it does make you log off and go do something else at times.

As an "old hand" so to speak, there are times when I see threads... Really Cringe... and think "that is probably better off being a PM! so it is just not a think that puts off just the newbies, I have started posting less because of it....

I think you have missed the point in what some of us newer members see. Its the fact that lovin's overtake many threads taking what could be an interesting topic off track and it is off putting and excludes people.

ive been here eighteen months approx. I won't argue if someone says it's less or more ..

My take is this.

Someone starts a thread. Someone answers. Someone answers the someone. The topic changes. Just like when folk are face to face. It's no different here. If someone else wants to keep the topic on topic then they should comment and bring it back. If everyone ignores that and goes on with the asides then it's clear that most people are interested in the asides and not the topic. So tough. Majority rules.

I loathe and detest the love ins that go on for message after message. I don't feel that it's exhibitionism alone it's generally nauseating desparation HOWEVERRRRRRRR they have a right just as I have a right not to acknowlege their display - unless of course I want to join in.

Will people Pulllllease stop making up extra rules to live by. There are already a sufficient abundance to adhere to.

Thanks Gran x

i think there are a few touch papers being lit in here - when did i say yo were not entitled to an opinion? i was merely responding to said opinion, its called a conversation

i take your point on threads being hijaked and how annoying it can be. it has stopped me posting on a number of occasions but i have enjoyed reading the banter between forum members. there is no way of stopping it so best just live and let live

By the time I got to the last message I had almost forgotten the start of the thread. Which is interesting in the fact I was so distracted by the banter and to be honest didn't care about the start, But in the same vein it proved the point of the original post

No touch paper i was just asking if it was wrong to voice an opinion on this topic. I assumed it was ok and wasn't telling people to pm just pointing out how it sometimes looks. When it goes that way we just log out as i guess some others do and things go quiet. Everyone has a choice after all which is good.

That was basically the point of my original post; the fact that it span out of control further underlined the observation; an unhoped for, but not unwelcome result

As one who constantly and consistantly goes off thread, indulges in flirtations and love ins, I say deal with it love, or post something about it at the time to shame me into behaving! (Others have))

These forums are just a bit of fun and should be treated as such!

I have made several friends and had meets as a result, so its not so much desperation, as fun and it yields results!

It also helps to teach me tolerence, and I have learned a fair bit about all sorts of things both swinging related and not.

So relax, post away, and enjoy xx

The Op makes a good point, for me it turns a forum into more of a chatroom and often squashes some good debates. I guess its why i dont use the chatrooms, but majority rules and its all about free choice. I for one wouldn't want to see it policed in any way

" As a relative "newbie" to the forums, i have taken the time to sit and watch and read old threads and existing ones, i am amazed how many people , especially new posters, get ignored whilst two or three regular posters post on a thread with comments that are totally unrelated to the original topic , hence the title "Introverted threads".Does anyone else find this off putting?

"

Sometimes I wonder why so many insecure people get into swinging in the first place. If a few people having a giggle on a forum makes someone else feels so threatened or insecure then how is that going to come across in a group setting, for example, and they get left on the sidelines for a few minutes whilst others have some fun - is that person going to have a fit cos they feel left out?

It's just a forum for people to have giggle so either join in or go do something else. It's all about choice.

On this one i think your wrong wishy. There are times that some people do not feel welcome. Its happened on numerous occasions over the last year or so. The forums are far less insular now than they were but it still happens. I don't think the op is insecure just stating a point that is valid. Its like the clique threads that go up from time to time. Newer members will see things differently to the way you do.

The thing with new posters is you never know how they are going ta react ta something ya say so

People watch the boards for a while and try and get a picture of how that person reacts or interacts with others then the more they post the more they get replied too lol

Recent changes to your avatar have certainly helped a lot of us get to the bottom of your posts....

And with specific reference to said stunning posterior... I would gladly peruse the rest of the pictures.. Purely in the interest of aesthetic research... And in full concurrence with the "Slurp" so eloquently voiced, on all our behalfs by the equally delectable derriere in the red thong...

Well said BB, it has nothing to do with insecurity, in fact I sometimes feel it's the ones that kills thread as insecure.

How desperately in need of attention do you have to be that you have to throw threads off track and make them into a love in at every opportunity?!!

I think most regular forum users know the ones that do it and don't even post on their threads, just leave them to it! If a posts interest me I add my two pence worth and move on.

It does make me laugh though when you get the occasional "quiet in here" thread because people have got bored and switched off!

in the night garden

I think everyone is guilty of getting sidetracked either in a thread or in real conversation, that's just how socialising goes be that digital or analogue.

It probably shouldn't happen as much as it does, purely to keep the clarity of a thread subject but at the same time a forum is about sharing _iews but also socialising and making friends and this sort of 'banter' is what puts the humanity and character to a forum.

It's a tough balance to always keep, you don't want a stagnant almost robotic 'my opinion is this.. now you proceed with your opinion... now EXTERMINATE!!!' type of forum just as much as you don't want the same five or six people in a mutual appreciation thread, in every thread.

Still, either way it doesn't really bother me and I don't think of it as an issue until I read threads such as this LOL. I think the little details in life must pass me by sometimes

A bit of banter is in the main a good thing and sometimes a thread hi-jacking can be quite comical... and makes the forum appear a friendlier place.

It’s generally a nice thing to have made someone smile, so people should be able to post whatever they want... I say 'should' because this works on the assumption that people have the good sense to see when the drivel they are sharing with a few selects has become nothing more than spam, cloning itself on thread after thread.

So, I guess when it is spontaneous banter, for me it adds something to the forum.

When it is predictable, repetitive, obsequious fawning engulfing every thread in its path…. it's not a good thing.

Going off topic is the nature of any forums, FAB included.

Forums are supposed to be light-hearted fun and games, and that's how I treat them.

Life is too short to be serious all the time, IMHO!

i ... we like and welcome newcomers and always try to be inclusive, I would not like to think anybody has been ignored.

Sometimes it leads to "overposting" when trying to respond to everybody but hey... cant be helped.

Otherwise in agreement with Pearl as well

Exactly and that's where the bridle chaffes, going off at a tangent, getting side tracked even a bit of banter, most of us have been guilty of it.

However, sending post after post of mindless, inane drivel ping pong fashion between two or more members, often the same people, can be an outright pain in the arse and the ruin of many an interesting thread.

We've been members and regular posters for some time now and still get pissed off by it.

If the culprits get bored or have no interest in a thread, instead of spoiling it for those who have, why not go post on one that interests them.

Or how about a "Love In" forum for those who can't be bothered to post P.M's,for whatever reasons.

Does anyone remember the 'old days' when every thread went off track?

It doesn't happen so much now. If you don't believe me, look back to the very first threads on the new style forums... especially the girls-vs-the boys threads.

Total train wrecks.......

But we loved each and every one.

And alot of the posters are still here, so it can't be all bad.

I wouldn't say it was all bad at all..... however sometimes I wish people would use there judgement in diverting a thread, especially if it just 2 people, at that point I do think "guys take it to pm, leave the thread to those interested!"

if others are interested in the topic it will stay on page 1... if not then it will die.....

Love in threads do nothing for me, because for the most part they are not all inclusive..... for example how does a newbie get involved in an "in-joke" between a group of people? they can't and I think that is what people forget at times....

I would not call it deliberate or intentional by any means.... but sometimes the perception is a lot worse than the reality
