As some of you already know, I shall be camping over the Christmas weekend with the dog, and have already decided what I shall have to eat on Christmas Day.

I shall not have access to a big oven, and have to plan well in advance in case I forget to buy any of the ingredients etc...

Starter:

Baked mozzarella cheese with avocardo and chorizo

Main:

Pan-fried duck breast with an orange and mango sauce with caramelised onions, saute potatos and parsnip, stir-fried vegetable

Dessert:

Warm treacle sponge pudding with cream

Wash down with Bucks Fizz and plenty of red wine.

Bliss!!!

Anyone else having something different to turkey etc...?

That sounds great!!

I've no idea what we're doing this year.

We rarely have 'turkey and trimmings' though so I may well have to be different this year and do it.

Alternatively, I'm thinking Christmas afternoon might well be spent in the local curry house.

I don't celebrate Christmas or any religious holidays, I just like the opportunity to cook and eat something a bit more elaborate.

Carl and I are pagan and yule/winter solstice is one of the festivals we celebrate.

We have been away the last two years. Last year we spent Christmas Day walking in the snow in the peak district with the dog before back to the pub we were staying at for full Christmas lunch. It was idyllic.

That sounds lovely.

My Husband has just suggested a BBQ so I've planted the curry idea quickly.

If the weather is bright and calm, then a BBQ would be lovely!

I too could do a BBQ if the weather is nice, however, I normally do something a bit fancy on Christmas Day!

I hate turkey too, in fact, it is probably the only meat I will not touch.

I find it too dry for my liking!

Not the way I cook it.

Place two oranges cut in half in the body cavity which not only provides juices that seep into the bird but orange (or nectarine) work perfectly with fowl and provides a real flavour bomb. The key is to cook it early on Christmas Morning then cover it in foil, put three or four tea towels over it and just leave it to stand until everything else is ready. All the juices get right into the white meat and it's just slurpingly heavenly.

When we where kids we only ever had yorkshires as a pudding. I always had blackberry vinegar on mine (grannys recipe) other variations my sister used to have where treacle, jam or butter and sugar. Wasnt until i was about 11 that i had them as part of my main dinner

I'll be taking a Cadac Safari Chef HP version; 2 single camping stoves - one runs on butane/propane canisters the same as the Cadac, the other runs on unleaded petrol or Coleman fuel; and a Trangia-style cookset with a stove that runs on methylated spirit.

I may need to take an extra frying pan as the menu is more elaborate than my usual camping food for winter.
