The lottery threads made me think about charities that I would make donations to if I were lucky enough to win.

My current ones are, in no particular order:

Cancer Research Campaign

Macmillan Nurses

Help For Heroes

Cat Protection League

The Dog Trust

RSPCA

How about you?

Notting

After watchihng some Secter Millionaire programs, i think i would rather donate to local groups that have instant effect.

Too many of these big organisations the money gets lost in paperwork, admin and politics.

I learned that from a very early age when i was sent out to sell scratch cards, that cost a pound each.

I was chuffed as had the cheeky face and sold loads of the buggers,

Then i watched my manager open the tin and take his share then put the rest in a bag for the charity.

Hmmm, didnt try so hard the next day to sell em i can tell ya.

"We don't donate to charity as most charities are run as a business nowadays "

thats buggered you for the Charity Bash then!!

Actually, this time, we found a local charity that is a school for the mentally and physically disabled children and youngsters....... very worthy

But the Beach Party is for Cancer Research.

I want to do Help for Hero's next year but you always get the idiots who won't because it's a contentious issue and they say that soldiers are paid for their jobs........

But for me personally, always Cancer Research and Save the Children.

Was going to say something simliar, so many charities these days, you can't help everyone. I like the secret millionaire idea of just giving to those in need that you meet throughout your life.

That's a very good point, after I saw the Channel 4 programme a few years back on Oxfam and Save The Children I was appalled, less than 18p in the pound ever gets used on the ground in aid with these two charities.

Sacks of Oxfam rice and flour being sold in markets in Kenya....grrrrrr!

That's why I chose Help for Heroes, with 96p in every pound being used for the rehabilitation and welfare of our brave troops wounded serving our country.

People who have their own opinions are not necessarily idiots.

"Cancer

after living in london and seeing the homeless and helpless there.

I would rather help our own first too,

and no its no racist.

Its realistic.

Where does the money go once we send it away????

One homeless guy in a door way - i had bought chips and didnt really want them, so i offered them to him, did he eat them, NO!!

He put them up his jumper to help him keep warm,

that hurt me cos i was oblivious ot the reality - he didnt want money and feed - just wanted warmth.

Doesnt take much does it.

I took a hot water bottle out to him for 3 weeks til he moved on, xxx
