Do you ever use your second name? Do you use it instead of your first name.

When i was younger (not so common now) people always said whats your christian name, i used to really piss them of when i said i didnt have a christian name (never been christened)

I prefer my middle name to my given name but as I'm not Welsh I'd feel silly using it as my main form of address.

For generations, my Mothers side of my family were always known by their middle name.

Me, my Brother and my cousins are the first generation not to follow this trend.

I prefer to be known as LJ (abbreviation of my nickname) however most people call me by a shortened version of my firt name. Unless I'm in trouble then I get the whole first name or even both first and middle names

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

~

But they were fucked up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another's throats.

~

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don't have any kids yourself.

~

Ah right, wires crossed there I think, neither of my names are Welsh, I was referring to the fact that the Welsh use their middle name in place of their given name. To me it wouldn't feel right calling myself 'Lee', I'd feel silly. But on the other hand, my maternal grandmother was from Abertilery so maybe I can adopt the Welsh way of doing things huh?

I can't say I've come across the use of the middle name as a regular thing in wales and we're only 20 mins away from Abertillery lol .... but yeah do things the welsh way, you know it makes sense

Amazing what parents inflict on kids (even by accident), my daughters father has Welsh roots so we decided on a Gaelic first name and a Welsh middle one - Myfanwy. I loved the sound of it, still do but didn't realise how it was spelled until I saw it on her birth cert

Shes now teased as it looks like Myfanny - she not best impressed with us

It's the American Indians I feel really sorry for. They name their kids after the first thing they see upon leaving the teepee after the birth.... it's no fun growing up answering to 'Two Dogs Shagging'

When i named callum 19 years ago it was almost unheard of in England although really common in Ireland and Scotland. He was the only one with the name through junior and secondary school with that name. Then about 6 years later all these callums appeared from nowhere i reckon they all copied me lol
