... the black shiney unmarked BMW tailing you suddenly flashes its blue lights at you and there is no other cars about!

Yup, got caught doing excessive speed on my way home from Barnsley, speed that would result in an automatic ban and even a prison sentence!

My own fault entirely. The road considitions were good, not many cars about, good visibility, trying to overtake the middle lane hoggers that were doing 90mph+ already!

And my mind was elsewhere thinking about the good times I had last night - thanks to you know who you are!

The officer was very kind and lenient, and gave me a severe ticking off, and a ticket for 3 points and 60 GBP fine!

THANK YOU Mr Officer!!!

And THANK YOU to who/whatever is up there looking after me!

Had he stuck to the rule book, I would have to go to court and get banned!

As I said before, no excuse except temporary lapse in judgement!

I usually set my cruise control around 90mph, however, I did not for about 30s and that's what happened!

A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured

her speed at 90+ using radar and photographed his car.

She later received in the mail a ticket for £60 and a photo of car.

Instead of payment, she sent the police department a photograph of £60

Several days later, she received a letter from the police department that

contained another picture - of handcuffs.

My mate commutes regularly between Esher and Lancs in his fancy Nissan 350 thingy. He recons if he sets the cruise control for 82mph he gets there quick with no police hassles. XX

She may mean the cruse control set to limit the max possible speed to 90. Many new cars can do this as anything that’s more than 20 mph above the speed limit can get you clunked.

That was tongue in cheek. Most of my post are wind ups because i am a cheeky chappie

I still stick to the speed limits as i cannot afford to lose my job due to points on my license. Sometimes my gaffer will tell me to put the foot down, my reply is 'will you pay my fine if i get caught'.

Mr elsy unfortunately is one of britains triss operators this is a job that unfortunately means he has seen people that are as much a wreck as their cars he has pulled dead bodies from smashed cars posh and not so posh doesnt make a difference.

The carnage he sees would make alot of people cringe but he does it as some one needs to.

Several of mr elsys colleagues have died over the years while putting on closures etc when there are bad crashes and people dont use due care and attention and dont notice the man in hi vis in the middle of the road with the cones!!!!

Anyway i dont want to lecture i just realy dont want their to be more crashes than there are already so next time think of the bigger picture and maybe lower your cruise control

I think we should club together to buy Jim53 a car!! He seems so bitter about anyone who has a better car than him! He calls Audi and BMW drivers but admits to "flying past posh car drivers" on another post!!

Just because someone drives a "posh" car, don't make em a bad driver or loaded! It just makes em someone who likes that particular car!

I speed sometimes and I would wager that everyone on this site has been speeding sometime or other. Even kitty could speed at 40mph in a 30 zone! (but she is allowed cos we like her! lol)

Think the op was a lucky bunny, but there was obviously no danger or no way would you have been let off... So really that is a tribute to your driving, even when going fast!

There are far more dangerous things you can do than speeding on a motorway folks. Ok its not perfect but most of us do it at times. Tailgating causes more accidents on the motorways if you look at statistics.

"I don't hide the fact I drive above the speed limit occasionally.

However, I only do that when the road considitions are favourable, and I NEVER drive above the speed limit in built up areas.

I don't mind taking the flack from peeps, however, please only finger point if you have never driven above the speed limit yourself, as I would hate to call you a hypocrite! "

It aint YOUR driving we are worried about. Its the resulting even-bigger--pile-up when some d*unk kid/ blind old dear pulls out and there is a collision at 100+ instead of 70.

Speed can be a contributing factor but its not the be all or not. Its 70 in the UK, 80 in France Unlimited on the German Autobahns. Not advocating speeding but the government has more than once looked at raising the speed limits on the motorways. The OP know’s it wasn’t correct so maybe a little less preaching is in order.

Unfortunately, when placed in an open forum, someone will read and disagree, and have every right to post their opinions, preaching or not.

You've seen the response to cheating by those cheated on, well, if someone's been or seen a serious accident they believe was caused by speed then they will and have the right to comment.

It's what forums are about.

"There are far more dangerous things you can do than speeding on a motorway folks. Ok its not perfect but most of us do it at times. Tailgating causes more accidents on the motorways if you look at statistics."
Yes I was made aware of this when I went on a speed awarness course to save myself from getting 3 points last summer. Myself and the other attend'ees on the course were shown the build up to the 1991 disaster on the M4 which left 18 people dead and others seriously injured. NOBODY INVOLVED WAS DRIVING ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT but the drivers who encountered the initial minor accident were all driving far too fast and TOO CLOSE BEHIND EACH OTHER for the weather conditions to take any evasive action when it was desperately needed. What this say's to me is that speeding itself is not dangerous but inappropriate speeding (and tailgating) certainly is. Maybe I am too cynical but I do think that the police look upon speeding as a great "cash cow" and will automatically issue fines (and possibly points) regardless of the situation and circumstances of each individual case.

Pearl, we said what we did not to preach at you. But to let you know what it's like from the other side. Us and our kids were very lucky to walk away without life threatening injury after being hit by a speeding car. The driver of the car that hit us ended up in a wheelchair, but it could easily been one of us. He was doing 60 in a 40 zone.

We just want people to think before they speed.

No offence taken, don't worry!

I am big girl enough to own up to my own mistakes, and have expected to receive some mug slinging when I posted the thread up for sure!
