Do you wear a mask?

My nan’s spare room.

I’m not talking about down the woods whilst dogging or robbing the post office.

I mean do you mask your feelings, if you do, how do you cope, is it with everybody, or is it in certain scenarios.

I struggle when times can be tough and I go into work and have to pack everything away and be there with people bringing me there problems and smile and wave.

Normal Fiddles service will resume soon.

I like to think I'm completely candid and open and what you see is what you get.

I'm also pretty shallow and selfish

It varies

How effective is that mask OP? I've been lucky enough to have bosses that can spot bad days or it could be things are written all over my face and no mask can cover it.

I’d say average, part of the problem is when you’re the old man of the forest, everybody expects you to be the problem solver.

Jokes aside. I wear my heart on my sleeve so people know if I'm upset. Do what you need to do. Take time out, talk to someone or even therapy if it helps. I usually go to the gym and pick up heavy objects. Sweat and tears look the same.

Thanks Mel, don’t get me wrong, I’ll put my big boy pants of stoicism on and I know I’ll be alright.

I’m sure compared to some my problems are nothing, but it’s always important to actually face them, something I’m not great with.

Procrastinators are us.

Here. There.

In some aspects of my life yes, and I’m getting better at doing it more be generally. But it’s on a needs must basis really more than habitual. Generally I’m quite an emotional wreck on the verge of both going postal and consuming my own body weight in wine and chocolate so keeping that under a mask while I drop kick Arthur from 26 for picking up the last bag of Galaxy Rounders in Coop is a developing life skill.

I try not to bottle things up. So I show some of my feelings and my state of mind to most people.

Not all of it though - inside I'm a fairly melancholy, emotional mess. I still cry a fair bit when I'm alone. I think it would be to much to expose people to all the time.

And of course, Davina is partly a reveal of my feminine aspect, and partly a mask.

I suppose I'm complicated. Who could have guessed?

😐

It’s a great question, I’m permanently playing a role but that role changes according to the situation. The real me, I don’t actually know what the real me is now, I’ve been playing these multiple roles for so long.

The customer service mask goes on for work.

I do my best to just be honest with friends and those dear to me. But I also know during times of high stress I do try to minimise expressing my feelings because I don't want to burden other people.

I know my loved ones won't see it as a burden. But when I'm in that space I can't fathom being worthy of that level of understanding 💜

Mr here, I used to but not anymore if people don't like the real me fuck em.

Whether that's me struggling with depression or otherwise, don't want people in my life that don't want to see the real me.

I've definitely been wearing an 'I'm okay' mask this year. It's been challenging, that's for sure.

But people don't really want to hear the nitty gritty details of why life has been grinding me down. And it's been hard for me to share with people but I've been trying to do more of that lately. Mixed results.

no

I'd say most people do when at work, else we'd all be unemployed!

I'm terrible at letting people know how I feel, I usually just cry and drink alone for a bit then I'm good to go.

I suppose at work you have to to some degree.

In every other aspect of my life, not really. I wear my heart on my sleeve. It is very difficult for me to wear a mask or hide my feelings. Good or bad.

I don't think I do , but maybe we're the one person you shouldn't ask , often others see things.

When I had a team to lead I was good at separating off my own issues concerns from the team, focus on what's needed that's why you lead, that's not a mask it's being professional

I find this very interesting. Would you care to elaborate?

Are your roles not you? I was having this conversation with someone a while ago and I said that yes, I have many roles in my life, but I am pretty consistent personality wise amongst them all.

How would you be different in each one? Genuinely interested.

I play roles at home ,at the pub, within family ,work.

I was very intelligent as a young boy and found out that others were threatened by me , teachers and pupils alike. I thought I was normal, no one else did so I developed different personalities/masks for each. It spread from there. No one knows me , no one.
