I don’t think it should’ve been a pen (England fan) Congo we’re lucky to get away with it however Kane went begging for it. What a game though. Roll on Sunday

Just Kane being Kane , been doing it all of his career .No pen .

Did it stop a goal opportunity? No, he was never anywhere near catching up with the ball and what contact there was (amplified by Kane's Oscar-worthy dive) could easily be construed as accidental, and rightly was by VAR.

Agree with both. Then he scores an absolute screamer 😂

Rainham / Gillingham

I wouldn't have given it, but a bit surprised it wasn't given the soft penalties we see nowadays.

I think they need to look at who initiates the contact.

England were desperate to equalise. Like Congo getting a bit dirty after Harry's second goal

Without him we’d be on the plane ( football not coming home )

No, it was the right call. Would have been livid if that was given against England.

Would I have complained if given to us? Also no. Have seen soft penalties, where the attacker "wins" then, given before and we will again.

Kane should have been booked for diving.

I was almost cheering for DCR because it's the hope that kills us.

"Kane should have been booked for diving.

They were pretty good, played a good go-forward attack and didn't just kill the game with defence. We got very lucky, their keeper was a hero several times in that game. Two killer finishes does not make a great team performance and we still have serious work to do to progress.

Over there...

England were shit, they play like that against Mexico they're done.

Whats with the pointless passing the ball back and forth the width of field when you're 1 goal behind. DR Congo played to win, they were constantly attacking, and up until Englan scored their dedense was solid.

As for the OP question...no, it wasnt a penalty. Replays showed that, they also showed Kane dived - should have been yellow carded.

Never a penalty, not even close. Super performance from Kane but I think he has become known now for dragging his foot to con referees.

And as the ref clearly called a dive , and was backed by VAR, how the hell was he not booked ?

In the english game definitely wouldn't have been given but just surprised it wasn't given here looking at whats been given before but a win is a win.

I think it was a penalty but I can see why it wasn't overturned on the count of it not being a clear and obvious error

You do see it all the time where the striker gets there first and even if they're not going anywhere, if the keeper makes contact, then it's always a pen.

Im glad it wasn't given, the practise of players going past the goalie then hanging a foot to con refs needs addressing at all levels

..

That's also true. But must be a real skill in trying to running while trying to keep your feet behind you at the same time! 🤣

It's a strange one.

One camera angle from in front was clear cut.

One camera angle from behind says no.

I guess the VAR guys based it on the latter.

They're told to go down if there's contact but sometimes you think he could have gone over the keeper there or around them if they weren't looking to hang their leg in ..

Not a penalty for me at all, Kane initiated the contact and it was such an unnatural movement of his foot into him and rather a theatrical fall

Forums.

Also, whole my first reaction was cast iron, I agree with no pen. Although it would be worth looking at the defender's contact.

Not a penalty.I was mildly surprised that it wasn't given though, considering some of the soft penalties handed during this tournament.

Bedfuck

I'd give Kane an 8 points for the dive, 9 for degree of difficulty, 2 for style.

Minimum of splash when he entered the grass. He kept his feet together on lift off but body had too much bend.

Ref should have given a penalty because England needed a helping hand.

They were dying on their feet after the first goal. They were packing their bags.

Tucel did the right changes invigorated the the dying monster like Dr Frankenstien. Kane became the head of the monster that came back to life.

Sadly I think Mexico could be end of the road. A tequila sunset.
