"Imagine by John Lennon."

It only became known after it was re-released after his death.

First time round it went unnoticed.

Average song in my opinion.

"Hurt Song by Johnny Cash"

Nine Inch Nails original rips your guts out. As polished as Cash's version is and way more popular in airplay terms, he fucked with the lyrics to suit himself and it's not a patch on the original.

Also about a young man's journey to finding his own gayness. It's a very multifaceted song! The live version from her 2014 shows is just bloody amazing, you can positively feel the sheer joy and love from the audience and her reciprocation of it. Dodgy crowd-shot video but it's absolutely beautiful

It's about Wilhelm Reich, written from the point of view of his SON Peter. There's no mention of gayness anywhere in the song. 🤷

Only the very carefully phrased line "your son's coming out". And I believe Kate herself mentioned Peter's journey in interviews after reading his book and how she soft-pedalled it but it was there.

i travel all over

It’s been let down by Radiohead since it came out . It’s taken decades to recognise how good it is and for it to get commercial success

The night we met , up the junction , something changed , velvet morning and ride come close . But I dare you to walk down a city centre on a rainy winter’s day and not feel completely overwhelmed by the power of let down

As you pointed out, Cash altered the lyrics to suit himself. He famously changed "crown of shit" to "crown of thorns," which completely shifts the tone from self-disgust to a Christ-like allusion of suffering and redemption.

While the changes make it a vastly different track, many listeners—including Reznor himself—view Cash's recording less as a straight cover and more as a final, haunting prayer from an aging legend looking back on his life and regrets.

"None of these are the greatest song in the wo-orld."

You're right, I don't believe there's such a thing as the greatest song in the World...!

Yes, "good" music exists, but it depends on whether you judge it by objective technical criteria or purely by subjective emotional connection.

At its core, music is art. If a song resonates with you, makes you feel something, or brings you joy, it is "good music" for you.

Some of my favs. I've already listed but there are many more to add to never ending list when it comes to music...!
