I saw the Climax Blues Band in 1981 and they were all playing those. Chatted with them after the gig and they said they couldn't believe how good Japanese guitars had got. Much better tuning stability than Gibsons and not far off in sound. So better gigging guitars.

I did stage management for blues festivals for 15 years. Many of the bands travelled with cheap Chinese instruments. They said as long as they stayed in tune they’d sound reasonably good. A couple of the bands gifted the instruments to schools after the festival season

No worries! I've got an Indonesian Squier Bullet Tele I paid beer money for that is one of the best playing guitars I've ever owned. Brilliant neck and frets, stays in tune for weeks, cheap pickups and electrics but still that Tele sound, snarly twangy bridge and sugar sweet neck pickup sound.
