I do love a good thunderstorm, but sadly unless I drive out of town I don't get a decent skyline view to see it.

East Cheshire

I remember making out in a tent in the middle of a wood during my uni sandwich year, when I was working for the forestry people. It was relatively safe (not like being under an isolated tree) but she screamed every time it thundered, which made things interesting.

My mum told me if you count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder clap, that is how many miles away the storm is. Don't know if that's true or not.

You’ll regret saying that when you get smited.

Unless smiting is now some sex thing in which you might not. This could go either way really.

"My mum told me if you count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder clap, that is how many miles away the storm is. Don't know if that's true or not."

You have to divide by 5 to get the distance in miles, or by 3 to get the distance in km. Sound travels approx 340 metres per second but light arrives virtually instantaneously.
