I enjoyed how the writers adapted original themes first the Cumerbatch series. For not first dammit!" I found “Sherlock” to be sub-par, as they tried to stick closely to the original Victorian stories, in the present era. Having to ignore plot holes created by technology I found “Elementary” to be closer to the spirit of the stories whilst embracing modern technology.

"Yep, it's good old Lt. Frank Columbo, coming from a longstanding fan after being introduced to the show by the Missus. Two years ago, I did an insanely in-depth review of the blu-ray set, which ended up being around 45,000 words (I work for my free copies, dammit!! ) and was only possible to keep my sanity through being a fan. OK, there are some turds (most of the 1989-2003 revival series were very average at best) but there are some absolute crackers. Anyone wanting to sample the great stuff should watch Prescription: Murder, Ransom For A Dead Man, Suitable For Framing, A Stitch In Crime or Murder By The Book (directed by Spielberg!) as their introduction. Just one more thing: don't get started about how many of the cases would be either thrown out of court of defeated by a good lawyer (hint: it's a lot!)." My fave villains were, in no order, Patrick McGoohan, Louis Jourdan, Ruth Gordon, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Vaughn, Donald Pleasence and Janet Leigh.

Didn't Colombo arrest McGoohan at least twice for different murders? Evil twin or doppelganger?

"Columbo was not great - he basically just badgered people until they cracked up and confessed " Not true, he came with the facts and then they unravelled. Though tbf, Im not sure why occasionally they didn't put a gun to his head and demand a helicopter, or some shit.

"Didn't Colombo arrest McGoohan at least twice for different murders? Evil twin or doppelganger?" McGoohan played four baddies and directed/wrote a few episodes. I watched Identity Crises again only last week, where he plays a variation on his character from The Prisoner, even saying "Be seeing you..." a few times!

"I'm really disappointed at the lack of support for Jack Regan. People seem to forget that the mystery was always solved right at the start of the episode for Columbo. He's bound to have been on set, so he already knew who did it...every week. He never had anyone to be physically scared of either, always the trim and elegant wife or the grandmother, driving a convertible. Neither of those 2 were ever going to throw Columbo down the stairs or be backed up by 3 lairy bouncers pouring out of a Ford Granada. Hard as my lawn right now and cool as the ice that'll be in my Kraken later, was Jack. I'm taking this one to the tribunal if Frank 'should've been a traffic warden' Columbo gets any more votes." Jack is very much in my top 3, you could make an argument for The Sweeney being the greatest British crime show ever, and it still holds up now if you avoid the cut to shit repeats on ITV4.

"Fair comment, he was a repeat offender, and I could have added Ray Milland, Honor Blackman, Laurence Harvey and any number of others, its tough!" It's odd to think that Laurence Harvey was dead six months after the episode was first broadcast. He's painfully thin in the episode, and was in the final stages of stomach cancer. Johnny Cash was great, and in a really good story. OK, he plays himself (bad-boy rocker with an extensive prison record) but it's Johnny Cash, for gawd's sake!!

Jessica Fletcher being one of them...she's a bloody crime writer. Miss flaming Marple....don't know how she's got away without being punched by a detective sergeant. Quincy.....just do the fucking job you're paid to do Rosemary and Thyme.....freaking gardeners. Just concentrate on trimming those bushes.
