on the road to nowhere in particular

After attending a funeral recently and listening to the songs that had a special meaning for the deceased I started wondering what songs I would like played at my funeral

I came up with a ZZ TOP song asleep in the desert and an Aswad track I a rebel.

This list of mine will change as the wind blows

What songs would you like playing as everyone says their last farewell to you?

couple, us we him her.

Too many obvious ones.

I can never listen to orinoco flow again as it was my dad's funeral song.

Or blackbird by the Beatles as mum's.

So I'd probably pick something really obscure and unlikely to be listened to by my family.

So I'd go for Radiate by the Chemical Brothers.

I've thought about this before, had to pick a song for someone before and it was quite a tough thing to do, so I want to pick in advance but give my kids the option to ignore my wishes because I'll be dead, and at the end of the day I'll not be listening.

My choices are

So Here We Are - Bloc Party

Either Way - Wilco

An Ending (Ascent) - Brian Eno

Might change my mind though.

I have my list planned. I told my mate about it and he asked if I’d die now as it sounds great. Not sure they’ll play them all in half hour though

Modern Love by David Bowie. Or something else with a killer saxophone solo.

At the risk of sounding like an old man shouting at clouds, the decline of the saxophone in popular music is all that's wrong with the Western world.

I too have given some thought to this the last few years as I’ve been to a few funerals where the assembled mourners mumble their way through hymns that they can’t sing.

So I would like to have played:

Oasis - Masterplan

Andra Day - Rise Up

Eagles - Hotel California

That was one that we walked out to me at my mate's funeral. It was joyous.

"Mine will be Dire straits Brothers in Arms"

That’s beautiful

My opening song

At my funeral- the crash test dummies

Brother’s in arms - Dire Straits

I like a folk song called the parting glass

Of all the money that e'er I had

I have spent it in good company

Oh and all the harm I've ever done

Alas, it was to none but me

And all I've done for want of wit

To memory now I can't recall

So fill to me the parting glass

Good night and joy be to you all

So fill to me the parting glass

And drink a health whate'er befalls

Then gently rise and softly call

Good night and joy be to you all

Of all the comrades that e'er I had

They're sorry for my going away

And all the sweethearts that e'er I had

They would wish me one more day to stay

But since it fell into my lot

That I should rise and you should not

I'll gently rise and softly call

Good night and joy be to you all

And would it be wrong to have people exit to “walk of life”
