The lollypop lady who helped me safely cross the road when I was in junior school, didn't even walk out into the road with her giant spanking paddle. She'd sit in her deckchair and press the button for the pedestrian crossing lights. I'm guessing after her hard work for an hour or so, she went home for a nap.
