Somewhere In The Ether…

Good folks 😃👋🏻

You remember what I require of you here, right?

No..?

Well, simply list the last film or films you watched and award it/them a score out of 10.

If you can be arsed, you may even add a mini one or two line review.

I’ll start you off:

I watched the film, Coda.

I’ll award it a highly commendable 9 - really good and it even got my eyes a’watering in one scene.

I also watched, Regretting You.

This was some right old interminable bollocks.

4!

Over to you now my fine peeps 😃😃

I watched Final Destination 2 with my eldest. I warned her against it. I'd score it a 3, but I might be being kind there.

Recently I watched Crime 101 - good cast, way too long and therefore a bit slow and boring

Nobody 2 - was okay but a sequel loses the surprise from the first film about this average dad being an assassin. Was still enjoyable enough to pass 90 minutes but will forget I watched it by next month

The Gray Man - Didn't do enough to make me care about any of it.

I watched that the other day to and concur that it was a pile of crap. Beautiful looking crap from a cinematography perspective….but still crap.

The woefully clumsy sexual symbolism throughout was so heavy handed as to be downright embarrassing.

Our very own Martin Clunes was good in it though.

South Coast

Started watching ‘ The wonderful story of Henry Sugar ‘ after reading recommendation in the forum. Short film Based on Roald Dahl story I believe.

Great cast including Jarvis Cocker 😊

Great production.

Unfortunately the style is not for me and didn’t last the distance so only a 5 overall for me.

Not quite over the hill

Last one streamed ‘War Machine’ on netflix. Mindless tosh with more than a nod to ‘Predator’ although sadly Alan Ritchson doesn’t get his kit off. 4/10

Last one at the cinema, ‘Mothers Pride’ feel good but somewhat formulaic British comedy. Underdog, bad guy, romantic sort of affair. 7/10

This film has been made dozens of times and there's only been one version that's attempted anything like the whole book. It's a complex book over multiple generations about many themes , it would be near impossible to do as a movie

It was not meant to match the book at all , it was a film about love loosely adapted from Wuthering Heights anyone watching it should've known this if they did their research.

The director literally said it was her vision of what the book was when she read it as a teenager...

It was a shit version of the book.

The Irishman 3/10

The main cast were too old and slow for the action sequences and flashbacks. The plot was the same, very sluggish and slow. It would have been better if young body doubles were used. It seemed a waste to digitally de-age the main cast.

The film was unnecessarily long. It could have been condensed into 2 hours. Not worth the watch. Had the potential to be another great mob film. Failed to deliver.

Mortal Kombat 6/10

Everything you can ask for from a film of this genre and niche. Gritty fight sequences with gory finishers akin to the video game it's based on. Fans will recognise the characters and Easter eggs. Comedy sprinkled throughout to keep the mood light. Easy to watch for non fans too. Sets up the sequel in a good way.

Apex 3/10

Taron Egerton steals the show with his unhinged Aussie character. Unfortunately it's the only good thing about the film. Charlize Theron's character is difficult to like from the beginning. The rest of the cast are creepy for no reason. Some great shots of the Australian wilderness. The director might have a foot fetish. I wouldn't watch it again.

I watched Damage with Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche after bumping into it on Amazon Prime.

WHOA. Juliette’s acting… well, both. 9/10.

That scene when the som discovers them… I saw it at the OG time in 1993 and it really stayed with me. Didn’t know what film it was and now I know!

I also watched The Bridges of Madison County with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. SUPER dramatic and a bit cringe on how clingy she gets but to me it’s like a comfort blanket. I bloody love that film. 10/10

Been thinking of writing something like that myself. and need to go to Iowa to see those bridges!

They will kill you 7/10

Horror comedy with lots of twists and laugh out loud moments. Another one for the foot fetish fans. Zazie Beets' feet have plenty of screen time. Plot is decent. The fight scenes are good. A good ensemble cast. Easy watch.

Death Race 2000 (1975) starring Stallone & Carradine. 6/10. Wacky races style B-movie with blood and gore.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) starring Steve Martin & Michael Caine. 7/10. Classic light-hearted safe comedy. Something you can play in the background while having supper.

The Great Train Robbery (1978) starring Sean Connery & Donald Sutherland. 8/10. Title says it all. Great cinematography and suspense.

All films are freely available on Pluto TV App.

2001: A Space Odyssey. 6/10. Really good for its time but a little slow in places which I guess is the point of building the suspension

Alien. 9/10. Holds up really well by today's effects and quite scary on places with some iconic scenes.

The Big Sick. 8/10. Really sweet story based on somewhat real life events and as someone of a similar background to the main character, some of the themes really hit home.

The Trouble With Girls (and how to get into it)

I'll give it a 9, funny but disturbing storyline, mix of comedy, drama, murder mystery and musical, fairly entertaining with a good cast including a cameo by Vincent Price and a few faces and even voices you may recognise from film tv and cartoon shows. Centered around a travelling talent show.
