Compliments here mean nothing imo. If I'm complimented about my work I'm delighted and know I've earned it. I'm an expert at twisting compliments to mean something totally different to what they really mean.

I feel it’s also important to accept a Genuine compliment. If someone gives you a gift (which includes a compliment) you wouldn’t be rude and just belittle it would you?

Hopefully not. I did ask a colleague to stop once because I was getting embarrassed. I don't doubt her compliments were genuine but she was very vocal and fulsome in her praise.
