Do you buy 2nd hand?

Jump to newest

By *hagTonight OP   Man

From the land of haribos.

I like to buy 2nd hand from clothes to books, it is fun to go into a 2nd hand shop to  rummaging around to see what they have and also what kind of deals there are to be made, different shops have different things, you can also buy furniture in some of them.

Did you know that there are 6 points of why you should buy 2nd hand too? Those are:

1. Selected pieces.

2. Eco friendly.

3. Second-hand dressing is budget friendly.

4. Higher quality pieces

5. It is the new obsession

6. Reduces fast fashion demand

It would be interesting to see if you buy 2nd hand, do you like it, what kind of things do yiu look for,.are you like me and like to look for all kinds of things too?

I do a fair bit of charity shopping. The majority of my wardrobe is charity shop finds. I've bought other items, too.

It's the eco friendly aspect, as well as finding items that are a bit different.

I'm obsessed with Charity Shops. Love a good old rummageFound some lovely outfits, some still new with tags on! Plus quirky things for my house. Love the idea of dressing up at a fraction of the RRP & when anyone compliments me on what I'm wearing I can't wait to tell them how cheap my whole outfit was!

And number 7 reason: It reduces the amount of waste going to Land Kill (Land Fill)!

Much of what I own is second hand. The best bargain so far is my 30 year old VOLVO which I bought ten years ago for £500 - used most days and still going strong 😀

Books, books and more books! I travel by public transport, used to buy a newspaper to read which was a waste of money and paper, I just get a book from a charity shop and simply return it when I`m done - I also rummage vinyl to help some fiends who are restarting their record collections, although you have to go through a lot of Max Bygraves to find a Deep Purple!!

Bought several running and cross trainers.

Best around late February when those who have bought for a New Years resolution, get bored.

Last running machine cost £1200 new, the lady had it in a conservatory with washing hanging from it and took £150.

Bought 2 brilliant bikes for £120 each in almost new condition and an electric bike for £600.

Second hand buys have saved me loads, it pays to be savvy. Charity shops and carboots in particular zre great for kids toys.

Just yesterday we picked up a fairy lantern toy for my daughter for £3. A quick google to see how it works revealed they are £25 new 🤯 we also picked up a barbie type doll and a unicorn note book for 10p. And some unicorn toys for £1.. £4.10 and a good couple of hours out

I've recently lost some weight and needed to get some new clothes, so I've been doing a lot of buying and selling on vinted. You can get some absolute bargains, and I'm happy my good clothes that I can't wear anymore are also going to a good home.

Buying preloved is so much more sustainable.

I presume you have your own? Or was it curiosity that, (I was going to say killed the cat. But in this case,) made it very much tingling and alive? Apologies for being nosey.

Was it a bigger turn on for you, knowing that you were using someone else's toy?

I hate waste with a passion and fully support recycling and upcycling but I struggle with this.

Can't do aimless rummaging of any kind.

Can't wear it.

In my life I think I've only ever worn one thing that came from a vintage shop. And it came to me via my sister after she stopped wearing it.

I find buying used clothes online so much easier than buying new! But I can't deal with thrift shops other than for frames / glass , they never have enough choice. I rarely buy anything new, there's enough stuff been made already.

I've been buying frames and glass from thrift shops for about a year now I've also reclaimed glass from other places. It's quite a lot of work but I enjoy restoring the frames and cleaning & cutting the glass to fit different projects.

I love a charity shop rummage too 70% of my wardrobe is from the charity shop

I refresh every year

If I haven't worn it in the past two years it gets donated back to the charity shops, which gives me another excuse to find a replacement outfit 🤓

I also upcycle a lot

A lot of our garden has been converted from old furniture or wood purchased from a 2nd hand store

Most recent purchase- A chest of draws I purchased for £10, the draws are now a tiered planted arrangement and the outer unit is now a veg planter 🥬🥕 😎

I got a sweater from my old school. And the first time I had it on some guy came up and asked what I was doing with his old school sweater. It turned out we went school together 40 odd years ago. Evan in the same class. And to think I'd been drinking in that pub everyday for years and never noticed a class mate.

Yeah I love charity shops. What's junk to one person is a treasure to someone else.
