I was reminded from another thread that need a new lawn mower. I always had a good quality petrol one and happy but are quite heavy. I will want something lighter but good still. I know battery ones can be good but most don't seem to last long to do a full garden according to reviews. Any thoughts or one you would recommend?

I was quite fond of the idea of getting a robot lawnmower, but I've heard they have developed a taste for hedgehogs.

A wired Bosch has always done me well though

keep away from flymo unless you use regular even in winter as the coils regularly blow and it's cheaper to buy a new mower than replace the coil depending how big your garden is there are some good light petrol ones around.

It depends on how big your lawn is and how regularly you maintain it.

The Stihl battery powered mowers are decent enough for the average garden.

In my experience they get clogged up a bit if you're mowing through early morning dew, and if you are working it hard the battery will deplete faster.

If you've got quite a large area that needs mowing I would recommend going petrol over battery.

Again, Stihl have a decent range of mowers.

Boxed is good if you want a nice neat lawn at the end. Mulching mowers are better if you don't want to deal with disposing of your grass clippings

Get a mower that has a drive function as well... Sooo much easier to use.

Thanks, seem similar to the cobra ones someone else suggested though a tad more pricey. I realised that to get what I want will have to pay a bit more that I had anticipated but did have my current one quite a few years so might as well invest wisely. Talking of which thanks for a wise answer as for a mo I thought goats and singing bands might be all I get

Only trouble with goats is they'll eat everything else in preference to grass. Got flowers? They'll eat them. Ornamental shrubs? Same. Trees? They'll bark and kill them.

One-time goat owner here and I absolutely loved the cranky old bastard but he was a shit lawnmower.

Ouch glad I go mine last year. A Hater will be at least twice the price.

The battery comes out and goes in a charger like a power tool.

Honda Izy mowers are pretty decent at a reasonable price.

I used one for years and the drive function was amazing, you'll fly through the mowing.

The downside was the wheel nut cog thingy was forever getting worn out.

But we were putting it through hours of use every single day.

If you do get a mower with a drive function (which you definitely should), avoid rolling the "driven wheels" on the ground manually... Either lift the mower so the unpowered wheels are what's rolling on the ground. Or turn the mover on and drive it to your lawn.

Pretty sure that's what fucks the drive on most mowers

Self propelling petrol is the only way to go mate. If you can get one with a briggs and Stratton engine or a Honda engine, youll never really have any trouble

I'm looking at the McGregor 31cm Cordless Lawnmower - 18V mower. It's a battery one, lasts around 50 minutes on a 1hr charge. I've always had wired ones, but am looking to change. It's only £80 in Argos at the moment.
