What does happiness mean to you?

Jump to newest

By *hagTonight OP   Man

From the land of haribos.

It could mean many things and not just one thing, from a sense of peace and contentment to feeling moments of joy.

Did you know that there are 7 key points to happiness? They are:

1. Choose to exercise.

2. Choose to take care of your body.

3. Choose to be polite.

4. Choose to be surrounded by people you like and love.

5. Choose to enjoy the world.

6. Choose to be grateful.

7. Choose to be happy.

For me, it means feeling free and feeling able to do the things I love to do the most, like painting, working out and going out for walks in the nature to name some of the things.

It would be interesting to see what it means to you, is it the same as me?

Not crying from overwhelming sadness

The point here is we have the ability to choose, and in my view, this is lost on many people. Responsibility fore one's self has given way to.others being responsible for how you feel.

I mean the things that I hold close, not the niff naff and trivia.

making the rite bits happen is the hard part ...

that's not some deep blarb... its just my experience, of myself.

That's all well and good Shag but there are times in people's lives when choosing those things isn't possible.

To a large extent happiness is a choice but not always.

All of the above 7 points are how I try to live my life these days & I now feel so at peace, after spending a lot of years with negative & detrimental people & situations, miserable feelings & emotions. I've made mistakes & bad choices over the years, but have learnt from them & they have all been part of my life's rich tapestry & have made me the person I am today.

I am grateful for all that is dear to me & no longer sweat the small stuff.🤓

Happiness is a fickle thing to chase, what you want to seek is Joy, which allows the happy to come and go but remain joyful.

Trying to find happiness will never lead to positive outcomes because the base level of humans is not happy. Life provides us so many emotions every day, trying to find 'the happy' will ruin the mental health that everybody seems to struggle with.

Be content that you have food on the table, a roof over your head, the confidence to be on this site to meet other likeminded people and not hidden away.

Whatever happens that is happy or sad, joy should always remain.

Happiness to me is being true to myself and living a honest and authentic life.

There are a lot of people who love to tell me that how I choose to live is somehow wrong, but they aren’t the ones I have to look in the eye in the mirror, they don’t reap the rewards or suffer the consequences of my choices, I do.

It’s not like I choose the easy path, I mean I’m a 54 year old man on fab for gods sake, but I can look myself in the eye and know that with every decision I make I keep my integrity.

I’m really proud of how I have grown as a person, I escaped a mindset that was instilled in me in childhood and solidified in young adulthood, I care about people, but not their opinions of me, after all how can I be wrong doing what makes me happy.

I always thought happiness was progressing in my career and earning as much money as I could.

After my dad died last year I realised time is precious, so I left my job, took a year off work and spent as much time as I could with my daughter.

I have decided to change careers and now I’m earning £60k+ less a year and have been working for myself around looking after my daughter and I am 1000% happier.

Happiness to me is being Dad who always shows up, watching her grow and working when I want. ❤️❤️

The crux of it in my opinion is “having enough” that could be of anything and is different for everyone, that’s what makes it awesome, everyone has the ability to be happy they just need to be content with enough.

Being able to choose what I do, when.

Also being healthy, so I'm able to do those things.

I also try to appreciate the little things, like the sunrises I've seen this weekend. Having a lie in today, after working 2 long days.

Having my pets and a good book to read and the luxury of a bit of time off to relax and recuperate.

All over

Great question OP and if I thought that there would be the slightest chance of acknowledging this post, would be giving it a much deeper thought but your responces usually follow a pattern I personally would not consider inclusive and I apologise if that sounds harsh but is obvious for anyone to see. Anyway, I recently had a conversation with a close friend about this very subject so I thought I will share my opinion for others. I had started to feel that perhaps I was not happy at all but after quite a bit of deep reflection realised that I just needed to change a few things and have gone ahead to do that though that journey is not complete yet. Hapiness to me generally means being content, have a deep sense of purpose in life and able to experience positive emotions whilst still managing life's challenges. It does not mean feeling joyful 24/7 and of course it's all quite subjective and varies from person to person. What often stops us from being happy is constantly chasing utopia.
