If your mum worked 6 day weeks to put you through private school and make sure you were fed/educated etc, surely you'd have a bit more respect for women. Nobody regardless of gender deserves to be denigrated. " There are groups out there who are trying to do good for their focus groups. Unfortunately some within those groups end up with black and white thinking and get so focused on their part of the world they become blind to the others. Sometimes it's just a bit of a doubt in what they should have done back then. There are also others that infiltrate, that group in order to groom and gift. Those who are in the group and have good intentions need to be mighty aware of those who are there for the wrong reasons and call out bad behaviour. Unfortunately, from my experience with some of those reddits a few years ago, that was not the case. And if you offered any kind of balance, you got shot at for being on the wrong side. In my opinion, if you can't see the bad players in your group and find it all too easy to see the bad players in an opposite group, you may need to pause and reflect. The best way for really checking in with your beliefs is to try and take the counterfactual position. | |||

If we don't see the humanity of the boys and empathise with the worlds they have grown up in, then we are doomed to lose them to these influencers. They are not pathetic; they are lost, hurt, and misguided and quite often are being tasked with finding their own place in the world in lieu of any healthy parental or mental figures. As much as we like to distance ourselves from many of these caught in the manosphere, it is but by the grace of God that we have not been pulled in. We think it's our strength of character or morality. Often it's from having a good adult figure, stability, and/or lack of abuse. Yes, I agree. I think boys and men have been finding it difficult to deal with the changing world where their idea of what it means to be a man is challenged. I don't demonise the followers but I think the leaders need exposing for what they are and we need to provide some good, visible role midels It’s no different to those who are groomed by far-right political parties 🤷♂️ all of the “influencers” in the doc talk about dissatisfaction with modern society, disenfranchisement etc… and they get so close realising who is to blame… and then pick women… in the same way that people are poorer and angrier now and realise that their money and assets are being hoarded and extracted… by immigrants!?? (🫠) again people failing to actually grasp why life seems so dissatisfying and hopeless and then latching onto similar charlatans and grifters like Farage/Tice et al. There’s very little difference in the messaging of these misogynist influencers and far-right grifters " Populism 🤷♀️. I don't know what you do about it because the populist leaders and influencers make it all seem so simple and rational. If women behaved a certain way all men's problems would be over, if there were no immigrants you'd get a doctor's appointment and earn more. "I think we need to be careful about how we label and demonise the boys and men that follow these influencers. One of the observations I took away from the documentary was just how carefully their followers are curated and groomed. In most instances, they aren't being thrown into the darkest parts of the manosphere on day one, but are enticed in with gimmicks and watchable content. The worst parts of the community are held back until they have shown a degree of pre-commitment through memberships, etc. By which point the endowment effect and other psychological tricks kick in These vulnerable boys are groomed in the same way as vulnerable girls are groomed for their sexuality, and vulnerable drug users are groomed onto harder and harder substances. Whilst I have some time for this perspective, ultimately there are a lot of men who have the same problems and didn't go on to blame women for them. That speaks to a weakness of their character, compared to other men in the same position who are being targeted by these same influencers. I want these men to be free of those problems, but women shouldn't be free from hatred only when men are comfortable. And let's be honest, many of these men aren't really all that uncomfortable anyway - they're just bad people. | |||
