What does freedom mean to you?

Jump to newest

By *hagTonight OP   Man

From the land of haribos.

Did you know that what freedom means is differently to everyone, it is not set in stone so to speak of what it is, it can be to have the power of freedom to express yourself to the ability to do what you wish, within reason of course.

I would say that I see freedom as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.

It would be interesting to what you think it is, is it the same as how I see it?

Freedom to me is not being tied to the rat race, financially free to do what we want when we want .We only get one go at this life and it's mainly taken up doing work we dont want to do ,unless your lucky enough to do what you love.

Free to travel before it's to late too.

Freedom is not giving a fuck what others think/say about you.

Doing your own thing, staying under the social radar, not being an emotional support dog for other people.

Freedom is being comfortable with yourself and not needing constant validation from others.

Money is freedom...

Without it you're fucked.

With a little you're stuck

With more you're safe

With lots you're free

Freedom to me is time to do whatever you want whenever you want, wake up with no alarm, take the dog 10 miles over the fields under the morning summer sun before going home for breakfast and thinking what you will do the rest of the day. Time makes you rich, richer than money ever could

I used to feel free working for myself, being able to tell anyone I wanted to get fucked, now I crave time

Agreed in fact exercising freedom often restricts it. Having children for example

The freedom to express my thoughts and opinions without fear of oppression from the state or violence from others. I was going to add “within the framework of the law” but I think there are now laws which infringe on the freedom of speech.

The freedom to do what I want, when I want, within the framework of the law, my financial restraints and without hurting others or impinging on their rights.

The freedom to travel wherever I want within my own country without needing to prove who I am to a government official (with the exception of the road traffic act)

The freedom of privacy within my own home and the freedom to defend that home from those who wish to do me, or those I live with, harm or take our possessions. They used to say “An Englishman’s home is his castle”. Now it’s more of a storage facility for criminals to take from whenever they feel like it and if you get in their way you’ll be the one in prison. I believe when you choose to take away other people’s rights, you should forfeit your own.

Its different things to different people.

We are extremely lucky in this Country to have many freedoms and its only when you work in some not so free countries you start to realise how very, very lucky we are.

From social framework to our health services, education, lack of endemic corruption etc etc.

I can hear the howls of indignation now but trust me, no matter how bad you feel your life is at the moment, its a hell of a lot better than others in many areas around the world.

The area most of us would like to change is our financial freedom and that takes planning, hard work and the ability to take on risk, some uncertainty and the ability to understand the chance of success is limited but nevertheless I'd say always give it a whirl and take on something nobody else will do and do it when you are young as changing your life once the kids come along and the job you have pays the bills its very hard to move on.

Shag, I noticed you never mentioned financial freedom in your initial post,is it fair for me to assume you live at home with parents.

Its all very well wanting freedoms but once you strike out on your own its the bills being paid which is the biggest threat and freedom, freedom of speech etc comes way down the list as basically you are too knackered to contemplate raising your voice. 🤣🤣

Freedom is not being on anyone's hamster wheel doing their bidding. Also the freedom to just get on a bike and explore it walk. It's not freeing to me to have the power to abuse someone, that's just pathetic.

Freedom for me is a peaceful life and a happy state of mind.

I find freedom in travelling alone, exploring new places, sunbathing and swimming in the nude with no inhibition.

I find freedom in running, especially if it is on the fells and a technical tasty descent is my fave.

I find freedom in music as it empties my head and I think of absolutely nothing, I only listen.

We only have one life to live and I don't want to just exist. The trick is to find your own freedom.

I think it's more of a state of mind, an attitude. There's people who find freedom in the worst possible situations like viktor frankl in the nazi death camps and others who spend their whole lives trapped by first world problems like boredom or job dissatisfaction

There's no such thing as complete freedom as the biggest manipulation of society is convincing people they are free whilst actually remaining under control.

Personally, my biggest freedom comes from being single. The ability to have peace and to choose who enters my space and when I want to be alone. There's not much more happiness than that 😌

Freedom is simple.

Free to speak, unhindered. Is there epitome of freedom.

Yes that means insults given and taken. It means debate, it means disagreement.

Without the above you have nothing.
