"Can video games really be scary? Oh yes they can! " Oh no they can't... I feel the same way about video games as I do horror films. I enjoy them but they don't get me hiding behind the settee. Some good ones for atmospherics: F.E.A.R. Doom 3 Alien: Isolation (the last one came closest to raising the hairs on my chest)

People have different levels of having immersion or being able to disassociate. Scary and horror movies do absolutely nothing for me what so ever outside of the odd skilled jump scare which is few and far between these days. However I'm able to immerse myself in a video game, especially a good one, so much that it feels like I'm there. Am I going to break down in terrified shock? No but tension and fear symptoms are definitely pressent.

"Can video games really be scary? Oh yes they can! Good folks, what are the scariest examples you have played? I’ll reveal my pick as to the all out scariest later in the thread (I’m hoping that one of you will list it first) 👍🏻😜 " Ooh easy for me alien isolation on nightmare, shit that game makes poop bricks.

"Hate the ocean so Subnautica terrifies me lol. Had to play with headset muted at times so couldn’t hear things coming to est me from the darkness." I have a similar fear so being the kind chap that I am, may I terrify you some more by wholeheartedly recommending Death In The Water and Depth - both nerve shredding, jump scare laden affairs involving BIG sharks…. 😵💫😵💫😜

"Alien Isolation, couldn't finish it as I kept having panic attacks 😅 too much suspense and lump scares " Jurassic park: Survivor is coming soon. Generally along the same lines as Alien. Though I expect not quite as freaky due it the xenomoroph being it's own level of scary but still the same premise I think.

"I don't find much scary in the horror sense but jump scares get me every fucking time! The first 2 FNAF games had me throwing the controller across the room 😅" 🤣🤣 Oh I love it. Thats the kind of reaction I enjoy from people I play with. I end up just sat laughing. Not good when playing games like panicore though, when the monsters can also hear you through the mic

Me not so much Oh the amount of times I've been crippled with laughter, while trying to hide from monsters, because my team mate has screamed really loud

"Project Zero 1 and 2. You had to take photos of ghosts before they jumped out and killed you. Alone in the Dark series. Nightmare Creatures and Tenchu had some pretty scary moments as enemies came through the dark at you. Similar to Silent Hill with the fog. Max Payne and Bioshock also had their jumps-scare moments. " Ah ha! Yes, the Project Zero (aka Fatal Frame) series was my top choice 😃😃 Once played, never, ever forgotten…. 😵💫😵💫😵💫 Armed with only a camera for defence and playing as a character who only slowly jogged(!!!) The series was as creepy as all hell.

"Ahhh, I see some of you love the jump scares, eh?😜 May I recommend, Skull Hotel which is on Steam for pc. It’s completely free and gives you the simple task of cleaning a hotel. ….except you’re not alone….. and I’ll reveal no more 😜" Giving this a go tonight, thank you

"Skull hotel, although I ended up uninstalling it as it annoyed the fuck outta me. - 'At Dead of night' had me on edge all the time. - 'Dark Deception' also worth a shout - Amenti - Mortuary Assistant Best one I've played so far this year has to be 'she was 98' it hurt my chest. " All either added to library or wishlisted lol Amenti was alright, but not amazing imo

Problem wasi used to play it at 2am, in the dark, headphones, as I was falling asleep. 😅

"Fist couple resident evil games had a few jump scare moments in them." I always remember watching a friend play the third for the first time, sat in the dark and there's a bit where a corpse gets thrown up out of a floor hatch. We both jumped out of our skin.
