So after not being in the gym for like 6 years. I will be going for my first gym session tonight I'm not really sure where to start I need to train my cardio tbh. My breathing is shit probably doesn't help I'm asthmatic and I have smoked since I was ten 🤣 I want to quit smoking but I have nothing to quit for I know most people will say what about your health. My response is " you're opinion is valid yes. Although my brain works in funny ways I know I need quit smoking and work out more I'm only able to push one thing at a time". I don't know if that makes sense to anyone.

Think of yourself as a drain on the nhs. Think of people needing treatment who cant get it. Think of yourself as a person getting treatment and wasting it.

Give up smoking and go for walks. Do that before starting the gym.

The best thing to do is just to keep going. Consistency is the key and once you have made turning up a habit then you can start to worry about other stuff.

Don’t over think it and just remember that everything takes a longer time than you think it will but you will get there.

Slow and steady wins the race!! Keep a log so you can visually keep a track of your progress. If nothing else just walk it’s a fantastic form of exercise

Read start with why. Iys a very powerful book.

Find a sustainable routine. Track your progress. Link over healthy habits to the gym.

Don't spend more time listening to fitness influencers than you spend in the gym.

Small steps. Don't try to do everything at once.....Think about what you want to acheive? Is it to lose weight? Is it to become fitter?

When you've decided then work out an exercise plan that is short, achievable and sustainable.

Look at joining a class, it's a great motivator and a great way to meet people....and an instructor on hand to give advice

Modify your mindset.....make working out part of your routine.

When you have embedded a routine and you are seeing results then you will want to continue....thats when you may look into giving up smoking, or cutting down at least

Take it easy, remember you will be starting off low on weights and take your time to get your technique.

Magnesium for DOMS ( muscle soreness. )

Protein for gains.

Set yourself achievable goals. Don't forget to rest.

If it's your first time going back for a while, take it easy.

You will not be doing the same weight.

I've had an extend period forced off through injury. Now I'm struggling to get back.

Just go and enjoy the time to your self.

I wanna lose a little weight and then tone up maybe build a bit of muscle and the maintain that. But thank yo u I keep this in mind

From a guy who’s 23.3kg’s down since starting last year, keep at it and be consistent. Eventually you’ll build a routine where you don’t even think about going, you just go!

Create a plan, start small, and set yourself reasonable and attainable goals. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

Doesn't matter cant block distances

For me I am motivated by things tangible. How many minutes/steps could you do and then beat that and repeat it.

1 mile 25 minutes

Get it to 20 then 15

Go buy the outfit you want to wear in 4 months 6 months.

An easy one put on a belt at your current size and look at the notches decreasing.

Take pictures and try to disregard scake weight to start. No e excuse then sudden you might loose a lot then stall.

Change your mindset

Don’t get intimidated

Stick to your routine and never allow anyone to influence you into changing your workout plans

Celebrate every milestone as if you won 🥇 gold medal

And don’t forget to rest and treat yourself

I'd say half a battle is going consistently. Find a time and days where you know you'll be free to go where other things don't pop up in place.

Once there and once you know what your goals are, focus on improving week by week through either doing more reps, doing cardio for a bit longer, a good diet, and copious amounts of tren

Again thank you all for your suggestions I'm taking these all on board I went for my first session tonight after work was good I did some upper body workouts and some cardio I was at the gym for about 1hr20mins roughly.

Do it for the feeling afterwards It’s great for clarity of thinking, feeling horny and also confidence and self-esteem.

Like others have said, I’d do fast walking and when you go to the gym, do light weights. Resistance training, lifting weights slowly and working on your core are really rewarding activities. Xx Small steps, set a 2 year target and go slow and patiently.

Starting is the hardest part so good on you for making that first step! It’s not easy to stick to but if you ease yourself into it then you’ll start to really enjoy it. Completely agree with what so many others have said in regards to all the benefits and how great you feel when you’re in the routine of it so definitely keep at it

The best exercise program for anyone is one that the individual enjoys and can be consistent in. It may not be the gym - it could be any activity. Football, cycling, rock climbing, martial arts. This could be a good time to explore an interest.

I dont need to pontificate on quitting smoking, that is a battle between your will, your brain and your addiction. You know the risks.
