Listening to it now

You might like the album, If I can't Have Love I want Power - Halsey

It's a pretty perfect album from start to finish

Way way too many to list but one that is the epitome of a track that comes straight out of the box, nails it with the first beat and maintains the momentum all the way to the final beat would have to be Fleetwood Mac’s cover of the Elmore James classic “Shake Your Money Maker”

"There are many I can think of...

But right now it's:

Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell"

That would be my choice, too. Gorgeous arrangement, chords and words.

Once, I was driving in the middle of nowhere in America. I suddenly saw two men. They weren’t working on a telephone wire, but they were diligently painting a small hut next to one of the poles. They clearly took a lot of pride in a job which very few people would ever see or notice.

I had a quick chat to the guys; they lived in the nearest town, which was about 25 miles away.

I got back in my car, got my iPod out (the new thing, then!) and put on Wichita Lineman.

I sobbed like a baby for a few minutes .

I saw her live for the second time this summer (first time was 2002). Stunning gig and she is such a lovely person. Very shy and unassuming - always seems quite gobsmacked by the appreciation.

I might be in love with her .

Another perfect song for me would be:

They regularly drop songs from the set list for a while they have an amazing back catalogue so can afford to chop and change what they play from one tour to the next.

WASP, Animal. Look it up & you'll see the in brackets part of the song name. Naughty as you like, so naughty that the record company refused to put it on their first album. Had to be released on an inde label.

But it seriously kicked the 80s rock scene into life.

Oh & then there's quiet riot, metal health. Without it, hair metal would never have happened. Go on. Someone say it. Get it out of the way now.

So so many good shouts, but for all of us, when we think 'perfect song' or of classics and 'best of's, we default to looking back at older music; the originals, the tunes of our formative years, and the music that influenced everyone ever after...

Tried to think of something 'new' that deserves equal accolade and think Childish Gambino's, "This is America" is seminal. From the sound, the lyrics, to the video (genius), and even the political commentary, all of it incredible and will deserve 'classic' status once it ages! (IMHO of course!)

I do get your sentiment on the sentimentals Dai , and I do think for a lot the harking back applies . I try to keep up with current too .

In terms of ‘new’ a current piece of perfection for me is Virginmarys No Future . The whole album is for me up there with the best I’ve heard for a long time . The album is House beyond the fires .

"November Rain by Guns and Roses "

I love that song. Agreed, perfect from start to finish.

Others for consideration:

China in their hands - T'pau,

Purple Rain - Prince and

Bat out of Hell - Meatloaf.

The one song that's living rent free in my head right now is The Sofa by Wolf Alice, with Just Two Girls following hit on it's heels (actually the entire album is just perfect!)

Succinct, puissant and highly efficacious in its primal conveyance of our struggle as a species against adversity…….or something.
