On "appreciation" threads (as let's be honest, women rarely start these for men here).

Do you enjoy being singled out by them? Do you find them creepy? Is it embarrassing being brought to the attention of the entire forum, often by someone you have little or no connection to? Has one of these threads ever caused the recipient to feel increased desire for the OP? Or the opposite?

I'm just curious as I personally find the whole phenomenon of these posts quite cringe for all involved.

I would hate it. I've seen some people be made very uncomfortable by them.

But I've seen some people revel in them.

Horses for courses or whatever I guess 💜

Whilst a compliment or something is appreciated, anything more than that from (usually) a stranger is a little weird. And it doesn’t make you like them more, possibly will put that person in the weirdo category

I wouldn't know, no one's ever appreciated me that much

But in general, depends on the person. Some are more prone to attention than others and some would find it mortifying.. either or, best to wank in private.

I found it overwhelming. I very much tried to downplay it and make it a funny thing but it seemed to take on a life of its own. It felt like there was no easy way to say “this is freaking me the fuck out” without coming across like a bitch.

But if someone enjoys that attention then good for them.

You may have opened the floodgates for some appreciation posts here 😬

I agree about wanking in private though

I think most would understand if you called someone out on an appreciation thread made for you. If someone made it without knowing you'd dislike it, then they didn't really know you at all. And if these things aren't called out they'll keep happening.

Like you say, these threads should be made only if the OP knows for sure that the recipient would like it

I think its a bit weird. Often filled with people who desperately post knowing full well they dont have a hope in hell to have the person they post about.

That must then be really awkward for the person

Im sure the OP didnt mean it with any malice but its not something i wish to be a part of.

I was reticent, at first, in participating. I was going to say how about the "Happy Birthday" threads? Some people relish in those and some people on this thread have been the progenitors and the subject of such threads .

The one about you got me thinking about the topic, but it's just the latest in a long line of these threads where it seemed like the recipient was ready to curl up and disappear as a result of being brought to the attention of the whole forum against their will.

This is a good point. The birthday threads seem extra pointless, as who actually puts their real birthday here anyway? Just because someone is in the forum, which is a form of community, doesn't mean they like being stood up in front of the class for others to comment on.

A whole thread about appreciating or fancying me would be uncomfortable, especially if by someone I didn't even know.

A mention on a thread where people name someone they fancy can be sweet but wouldn't make me more likely to meet a person.

I've had piss take posts made about me by friends though and they're usually funny.

I think they're awful. Cringy, sentiments expressed that are far from true and done in the hope they'll get noticed. The people are lovely but placed on a spunk coated pedestal.

I dislike the fawning. The pressure placed on the person. The bitchy comments that can pop up.

Do you know what I really dislike though? The cyclic "appreciation for everyone" that follows.

(Friends doing it jokingly is very different!)

I've had it happen once a few years ago and it was uncomfortable.

A woman who was well below my lower age filter and couldn't message, contacted some of my verifications asking them to persuade me to get in touch.

When they all refused she started a thread in my name and quoted parts of my bio in the hope I would be impressed and message her.

I did the opposite and blocked her because she didn't respect my filters and the whole thing was creepy.
