No such thing, its art, not a competition.

People will say their heroes and that's absolutely fine but most of them excel only at being them and their band and often would be found "lacking" if asked to play other styles/pieces. Again that's fine. It really does NOT matter.

My fave suggestion is always, for people who have never heard her play drums or thought she was "just" a amazing singer, is to watch Karen Carpenter...

Meg White wasn’t even the best drummer in the White Stripes

Neil Peart/Buddy Rich/John Bonham all insanely talented and very different - I don’t know how you measure the ‘best’ in something like this are there proficiencies that get marked and a total score?

Theres so many I have never heard of who play sessions because they get it right first time… every time they will never be household names but they’re probably amongst the best players out there.

All different and so many good ones. I'd say Cozy Powell was one of the best.

All good guesses, and Bonham comes close, along side Mitch mitchell and ginger baker, but the true GOAT will always be…

Quite a few names on here that I don't know. So I'll stick to the best ones I've seen live.

Ian Paice and Carl Palmer.

El Estepario Siberiano is phenomenal!

My all time favourite was Joey Jordison.

I also loved The Rev and Taylor Hawkins.

Absolutely in love with the styles of Travis Barker and Josh Dun 🫶

Hard to choose a “best” as it gets to a point where technically they’re all fantastic and it comes down to style/musicality etc. That said some current favourites of mine (in no particular order) would be.

Gregory C Coleman - The Winstons (The Amen Break)

It's amazing what a 4 second sample of some drumming went on to become.

What's sad is that he died with no idea the impact he had on music

Imagine the music that wouldn't exist if he never played that break.

I have seen below. Carl Palmer , Charlie Watts.

Yes others that have been mentioned above. A lot I have been lucky to see live. My most memorable was . Cozy Powell playing with Rainbow at Monsters of Rock Donington

John Bonham is overrated. Yes he is a superb drummer but there were lots of other great drummers from that time period that get overlooked.

Neil Peart is overrated as well, the best drummer in Rush but what else did he do outside of Rush?

Jim Gordon, Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie et al, played on thousand of records in all styles of music.

To be fare there can never be the out right best finest drummer, vocalist, bass, lead, keyboard as its down to personal taste and style genre etc,i rate Roger Taylor superb on Sheer Heart Attack and on Live Killer's but first cassette i bought was Night at the Opera been fan for years.

Earlier someone on thread mentioned Cozy Powell when i was a kid he released a single called "Dance with the Devil"

Love talkin music to be fare

Given that it's completely impossible to conduct a meaningful comparison across genres - Rich vs. Watts, for example - this is an utterly pointless discussion.

It might be worse, I suppose - it might have been a topic related to swinging.

This place becomes more like Farcebook every day.

I presume it was John, Paul or George. They were all better drummers than Ringo, and he was in the greatest band ever
