near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

As a time served groundsman, the last thing I`d do is walk onto another groundsman`s cricket table until I`m invited! Anyone else know any strange ones like this?

You never pass the port to the right always to the left and its not aloud to touch the table.

On one rig I worked on…..

At meal times, if anyone asked for the salt cellar to be passed down the table towards them…..

Everyone else in the mess-hall immediately and silently, passed every other condiment, every sauce bottle, every napkin holder, every spare piece of cutlery and every spare cup, glass, mug and side plate, towards the hapless guy who ended up totally engulfed under anything he might have asked for next….

Most people only ever asked once....but every now and again you'd forget and boy'o boy did you feel like such a chump when you did...

I ain`t no cricketer and neither are most groundsmen I know! Got sod all to do with the players, just utmost respect for the other guy`s work! In fact, most sportsmen know sod all about grounds maintenance although they think they do!

We had it all, pass left, pass right, stay on the table and must never touch, but one rule is always the same, ladies never pour...

Was going to say as an x mess manager the ones I worked in the port had to be poured with the decanter touching the table.

The term "table" is another term for the area of grass in the middle of a cricket field where all of the so-called "action" takes place! Can also be called a "square" but at most grounds it`s actually a rectangle if there`s enough room
