Loss of a pet

I had to have my dog pts yesterday and I'm gutted. I only lost my cat a few weeks ago. Every time I go in my front room I expect to see him on the sofa or in his bed then I remember 😢. I nearly made a really silly mistake this morning and took on a 10 year old dog but come to my senses. How do you get passed the grief?

Its not easy just the same as losing a loved or friend, it takes time.

We lost one our cats last year so we got a picture of him printed out on his favourite place to lie down.

Anyway I'm sorry for your loss op it's never easy is it?

I had a picture of my cat done. It only arrived on Thursday and now I've ordered one of my dog 😢 I got his ashes back already this morning and he only passed yesterday morning. It's been heartbreaking

All over

I am really sorry to hear that. It is not easy at all and you will always remember a much loved pet. I do mine all the time and even this morning I was reminiscing about something funny my dog used to do. They give you so much love, you never forget that one even if you get another. My advise though is not to get one straight away though others might think differently. Very sorry again for your loss x

Stay strong, remember the love and affection they gave you, and that you had that best friend for part of your life but you were their best friend all of theirs!! Xx

This is the only time your pets will break your heart.

My condolences to you, just take one day at a time and remember your pets knew how much you loved them right until the end ❤️

I had to have my cat put to sleep just before Christmas, she passed safe and warm in my arms feeling nothing but love and hearing my voice. It was that understanding that got me through

I still have my dog and he's been poorly and I am very aware that he's older now and don't know what's around the corner. I dread the day when his time comes.

Just be kind to yourself and feel what you need to feel

I've been asking myself this recently. My 11 month-old puppy died suddenly about a month ago. The shock of the sudden loss has been tough to deal with. I know it just takes time but it's been horrible.

It's the same grief as a best friend or family member.

Time is a healer.

A lot of people get another pet soon after but that's not for me personally - there's a grieving period.

I'd definitely recommend considering another pet in the future though - bot to replace but for the great life you could give it. I'm pretty certain your dog would hate for you to be unhappy and would welcome another friend.

I'm so sorry. I have lost a few some suddenly and some due to health. It's not easy and you don't forget them. The first thing I do is go to a rescue and home another dog that looks different and give them a loving home

It's awful but in time it gets easier and the memories of the good days will come to the fore..

Been there four times, most recently in Jan and it's raw at times but it's part of loving them to make the right decision for them at the right time..

Hugs op..

I'm so sorry op 💔

Losing our furry friends is hard.

All I can say is time helps, but be kind to yourself.

I've got a lovely pic of one of my cats on my wall, that my best friend got me for Christmas 5 years ago.

Sadly my cat passed the week before unexpectedly, so it was a very poignant gift, that she'd commissioned months before.

Lots of love x

Don't focus on getting past it.

You walk with grief until you understand each other. It's a traumatic time, so allow yourself that time for understanding.

My girl went to her eternal play park in 2016. Not a day goes by of the 12.5 years spent together causing trouble!

I choose to define her life by her life, not her passing. I laugh out loud most days and could write a book on her.

I learned so much.

I am grateful every day for what she added to my own life, especially patience.

I had to walk with grief to reach the other side of it. You can't avoid it. I would never have known the depth of caring I was capable of until I understood what it took.

Really sorry for you loss.

Ive been there myself as many on here will probably have aswell. And no doubt i will go through it again with my current furbabies. As a few have said above, theres no quick fix and you just have to sail on the wave of emotions. Its that void they leave behind that hurts the most. Let it out, grieve and go out in nature to process your thoughts.

Anyone who thinks it's just a dog has no idea. They are part of our families, as fear as children or siblings, part of every bit of our daily routines and wriggling into our lives

Hope you feel better soon and remember the good times

That's terribly sad, OP. I'm so sorry. I don't think there is an easy or quick way to get past the grief. It's there, and needs time and space to be felt. Be patient with yourself and do comforting things.

I still miss my cat who died last year, and it's only recently that I can think about her without feeling that awful pain in my chest. I still miss her, so much, but it's not as sharp.

Feel for you OP, it does pass as do the habits, there's things you won't even realise until months and months have gone by. I still can't listen to certain intro's to programmes as they used to send mine to sleep.

There's a routine that will disappear, for me the quiet and amount of time was the hardest, that and finding yourself walking around things not there as you expect them to be there. I donated pretty much everything to charity or threw things out the next day, kept one or two toys but that's all. It fades but even now 7 months on an old habit will crop up.

It's hard. I had my 20 year old cat pts a couple of years ago and I still feel sad when i see a picture of him. Having the kittens has helped.
