My kid is really getting me into watching films I wouldn't normally. We've been through a weaving line through a bunch of different directors' films. But the latest? We watched Magnolia a few weeks ago and today he put on Phantom Thread. And I think I really love Paul Thomas Anderson films.

Not sure he's my favourite favourite but I'm enjoying this journey. Who are your favourite directors?!

QT for me. Can't do any wrong in my eyes. My top three favourite scenes ever all come from his creation...

1) the opening scene of 'Inglorious Basterds', genuinely took my breath away the first time I saw it. I literally had to consciously remind myself to breathe!

2) the 'Sicilian' scene from 'True Romance' (Dir. Ridley Scott, but penned by QT), two of Hollywoods finest going toe to toe in a beautiful but sinister tete a tete.

3) the OD'ing scene in 'Pulp Fiction' ...that was really fuckin' trippy!

I like some British directors like Shane meadows.

I like Alan Clarke too, most people know him for 'Rita sue and bob too'..which is kinda annoying because I think that's his worst film.

No2 is genuinely a piece of pure genius, film making at it's best.

Personally

Favourites are Martin Scorsese, an absolute god of storytelling. I like gritty realistic movies.

QT is great as is Francis Ford Coppola, no list would be complete without Spielberg and George Lucas.

Gotta give a shout out to Martin McDonagh. Hasn't done many films, but those he has, classics each one;

- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

- The Banshees of Inisherin

- In Bruges

- Seven Psychopaths

I'm probably in a minority in preferring his brother John who made the hilarious The Guard. I hated Banshees.

I have to disagree, Cape Fear is a great movie, the main focus is on the deniro performance, he's very convincing. It's a classic.

It's not necessarily meant to show women as victims. Even the nick nolte character is a victim tbf.

My sister loves this kind of movie with psychopathic tendencies, she also loved no country for old men. It's just entertainment, not necessarily meant to have a larger meaning for women in society.

There's plenty of movies with female nutters too, Misery comes to mind, the hand that rocks the cradle. Just pure entertainment.

I wasn't trying to tell you how to feel, I was trying to say you're overthinking it. These are movies to just entertain, not to take too seriously.

Some great answers here.

Love Clint Eastwood. He has made some fantastic films.

And have to agree about Q.T. , so many classics, full of classic scenes and incredible soundtracks.

I assume you're talking about the Scorsese remake? I'm a huge Scorsese fan but that's definitely among my couple of least favourite films of his. Doesn't work for me at all.

Magnolia is amazing.

That scene with Julianne Moore amd the chemist.

'Shame on you!'

Phantom Thread is delicious. Tou need to check out The Master too. Phillip Seymour Hoffman shows why he was the best actor of his generation in it too.

My fav directors? Can change on whichever day you ask me!

Loach, Coens, Welles, Aki Kaurismaki, Wes Anderson (today).

Kubrick, Ridley Scott, tarantino, Hitchcock, the biggies lol

As a horror movie consumer, I'm really enjoying Jordan Peele's stuff and for cheesy schlock, rob zombie fills a hole.

Might be controversial but I really don't rate Guillermo del Toro. I can't think of one of his I've actually enjoyed.

I have a soft spot for Roland Emmerich and Richard Curtis.

The Trekkie in me loves the movies and episodes Johnathan Frakes has directedm
