I believe male baldness, or a good head of hair, is passed from mothers’s father … I’m bald but my boys are all in their 30’s with no sign of baldness. Father in law had great hair

It's any which way inheritance, with randomness and classic genetic rules applying.

Quite a lot of male pattern baldness is related to the androgen receptors on the X chromosome. Which all men get from their mothers.
