North East Scotland, mostly

Are you different online?

I know the default answer is “no I’m just me, no fakery”. I’m going to throw in a few curveballs, straight off the bat. Can curveballs be hit straight off the bat?

There is nowhere else, except for with my husband, where I’m able to be fully open about my sexual proclivities. That’s definitely an area where I interact differently than face to face.

I dislike disagreements in person. I don’t seek it out online either, but I do enjoy having time in an online discussion to marshal my thoughts. It stops me from reacting in the moment and allows me to view things more objectively. Another difference.

What about you lot?

Consciously different, and that varies with the online platform.

I'm far more confident online than I am in person.

Here I can start threads and initiate conversations pretty easily. I find I'm much quieter in reality until I'm comfortable with people.

I think the site does provide an outlet to be open to a degree but there are some things I still hold back.

I expect it's a very different experience for a solo person as opposed to a couple though.

My personality online is still me, I'm just as much of a romantic softie in person.

Definitely different when I'm drinking, especially on a Saturday night on facebook lol. Sometimes I don't even remember what I've posted haha

I never go by my name online. So it always feels like I'm interacting online using a persona. And that persona is always me but maybe I've dialled down some of the aspects of myself that I don't like so much. Or I've dialled up some aspects that I want to explore more? I feel like different parts of my personality come out more depending on what I'm hoping to achieve online. Not sure if that makes sense?

Different in that I discuss things online that I don't talk to vanilla friends and family about? Yes.

But I'm the same offline with Fab friends and acquaintances. 🤷‍♂️

I am much more confident online than I am IRL. I am obviously guarded online as well as to the intimate details of my life, but I like to think I am much the same personality wise online as I am IRL.

I barely exist online. I have no personal social media and belong to no other forums. Fab is it. How I present myself here is probably accurate, but abbreviated. I Interact sparingly, and mostly keep my distance. So much of me is withheld. Only a few people from the forums have met me in real life. I wonder if they consider me the same in both places? I’ll have to ask. As for Ailsa, she is much less elusive in real life x

I think I'm less confident online than in person. I find it incredibly hard to send the first message as I honestly don't know how to start the conversation, I find it much easier in person.

I'm the same in terms of personality in RL as on Fab. However no where close to as brave with making my banter flirty/suggestive. That's the difference in my case.

I can be. It's all situational really. e.g. if I've had a disagreement with someone irl then I go online - I am not necessarily going to carry that mood online, then again I might.

Yes I think if you catch a curve ball on the sweet spot, it takes the spin right out of the equation.

I don't run with th expectation of agreement in any expectations. There's always similarity and difference at play and both are opportunities to learn. I like to think of conversation as explorative.

Those kinds of relationships where you feel like you can share anything with your partner are wonderful.

Yes I'm different but I'm never the same in every situation anyway.

I am much much more confident/ comfortable face to face, I tend to struggle with online communication and I often find myself searching for the right words to express myself.

It might sound weird but for me communicating online feels 2 dimensional as opposed to real life where I get the full 3 dimensional experience.

Nope, what you see is what you get whether online or in person. Switching personas seems like too much hard work

Yes, I know for sure I'm more confident online than in person. I think it's because I find it easier to talk and express when writing rather than talking.
