Time to come clean. How much do you put in those envelopes that are constantly going around, collecting for for someone whether leaving, birthday, baby or whatever else? Sometimes for people you hardly know yourself. Do you make sure they have no idea how much you put in?

None as I don’t work in an Office!

But when I did also none. If it was someone cared about I’d buy them My own gift and card otherwise I’d just sign the card. I didn’t care what other people thought this is what I had decided to do those who knew me knew I was extremely generous. Collection are for the other types of people - the collections type of people , not me

I remember one particularly unpleasant person for whom a leaving collection envelope was sent around.

After the first few teams had been presented with it and it had received absolutely nothing it was pretty plain how the whole office felt about them.

It's been a while but it depended how well I knew them. In the last few years of my employment there were multiple redundancies twice yearly. We all got a bit fed up with the collections

End of term collections for teachers leaving were expensive.

People would turn up at our little hideaway where no one ever ventured asking for donations for teachers who barely acknowledged us.

They got a shiny pound coin

We did collections within our own department of £5 per person, and anyone else who turned up got £1, or more if I liked the teacher who was leaving.

When people leave and there’s a collection it really depends on the person ….. I have indeed put nothing in and I have also put £20 quid in

Sometimes you work alongside someone in time wise more than you do your family!
