Not the North West...

Can you?

I always have an idyllic picture of doing this, all romantic like and gliding along gracefully.

What usually happens is I cling on to the side while some smug 6yr old goes flying past me. It's ok to trip them up in this instance right?

I am going ice skating later and I'm just wondering how long I'll be waiting in a&e afterwards.

Tips to stay upright welcome!

My claim to fame is that I was once featured skating on Dancing on Ice. I didn't realise the man in the middle of the rink having a lesson was from Emmerdale and was being filmed. When the episode aired I could be seen hobbling round the edge of the rink behind him, clinging on to the barrier.

My sister in law did this just before Xmas.

1 broken arm, 4 stitches, one child who is scarred for life, and a toddler who is scarred for life (mentally) by th sight of her mother plummeting towards her, protecting the toddler and breaking her arm in the process.

I gave it a miss. Hippos don’t skate so well

Our second ever date was ice skating 11 years ago we went regularly for a while but then the kids come along so a few years not skating but now they are 8 and 10 we decided to go last year and also a couple of weeks ago great family day out although James thinks it's funny to kick the back of my skates haha (he's the better skater) once you get the hang of it it's like riding a bike. Good luck and have fun x

OP get tips from YouTube videos.

Though when I've done it in the past, all I got was cold, with a soggy sore arse from landing on it frequently.

Can you believe people actually pay money for this? I should offer them the same service by making them sit in a bucket of ice cold water with their clothes on.

If you can skate, you can ice-skate. Just ask them over the counter for skates with an edged blade not a flat one. I doubt very much they sharpen public use skates, but you never know!

It's all about your centre of gravity and staying loose, if you tense up you will fall you have to be "fluid" and keep making very minor adjustments to your stance.

Get away from the wall asap, do some of the taster lessons they’re for complete beginners and very social. Bend the knees to lower centre of gravity and it’s less far to fall. Wear gloves, makes it less scary and less of a big deal when you do stack it!

our ice rink run a special card membership for one year

cheaper entrance fee for anytime so even on school days it was cheap

so monday to thursday for 3hrs you soon pick up alot

so instead of 2.00 to get in it was .50 to 1.00 for the 3 hrs that time soon adds up

friday saturday sunday it was packed out tight so never went in those times.

My own daughter tried to rub it in by saying i couldnt ice skate that was until i pulled out my own skating boots.

she soon went quiet and i didnt get an invite to go with her.
