Let’s just clear something up now before it gets out of hand.

There is no better version of The Sound of Silence than the original by Simon and Garfunkel.

I left this in a 'covers' thread a few weeks back, but still stand firm; 'Summertime' one of the most covered songs ever... only issue is, who's cover do you pick?!

https://www.eno.org/discover-opera/the-history-of-george-gershwins-summertime/

I'll go a little off piste and say mine's Jason Rebello (with Maxi Jazz of Faithless), just got everything IMO.

Have to agree with the said gentleman!

Although Disturbed version is superb, the wistfulness echoing throughout the original is impossible to surpass.

As an aside, Placebo’s version of Running Up That Hill knocks spots off the Kate Bush original.

couple, us we him her.

A good cover song pay's tribute to the original whilst adding a new twist and if done well can be almost as if the New band wrote it themselves.

There's plenty of cover songs where the original is still brilliant and the cover is equally brilliant.

Personally I prefer the original versions of the following.

Smooth criminal.

Mad world.

Valerie.

One cover spring's to mind when both versions are brilliant.

Love machine girls aloud.

Love machine arctic monkeys.
