I suppose I'm put off by the notion of having something immutable on my body, something that I could get weary of having on my skin.

There's no pull or desire or anything that compells me to have a tattoo, in the same way I have no interest in piercing my ear/s.

1 - I'm a big baby when it comes to pain

2 - I suffer from crippling indecisiveness

3 -I cant warrant the cost when I've got kids and a Mortgage

I have many times considered getting a small one to remember a friend that died too soon to remind me in the shower every day that life is too short.

As much as I love the art and the culture, I went almost 50 years without a tattoo, reasons being;

1) Too fussy, never happy with a design/idea.

2) Big baby, low pain threshold.

3) Old fashioned Dad who hates them.

Then this year I bit the bullet and now have two. One to commemorate my best friend who we sadly lost far too soon, and the other to remind me of my own struggles this year and how I survived them.

...and the best part, I love them both, they didn't hurt 'that much', and my old man thinks they're cool!

I have a fair few tattoos I got the bug when I had my first one at 18, I've got mainly wolves to which stops me being a lone wolf now I built my own pack, plus over recent years I've described them as my self harming ways without the scars

Yes; they're not cheap are they? Well, they could be if you went somewhere rather dodgy etc but... the tattoo(s) might be rather naff.

See, I think they started out as a marker of not following the herd. Now they're far more common and not having any is rare (I'm not going to say not following the herd

), especially on this site.

I wonder if there's any correlation between those more likely to be sexually open (I'll think of a better term soon!) and having a tattoo.

The majority of my friends outside of here have tattoos, even if they are tiny ones.

I've wanted one since I was 17, but the ex said they were common and I never got one. Which is kind of fortunate looking back, because I wanted a Celtic knot band around the top of my arm. Which I certainly wouldn't want now. Which kind of puts me off now, what happens if you change your mind?

But in the main, at the moment I want more piercings and want to have my ear curated.

I have toyed with getting one for a long time however I see tattoos on other people and tbh, they age really badly. The tattoo I would want would be very intricate and the bleeding of the ink would mess it up in just a few years, that's why I haven't bothered.

Oh that's a lovely meaning behind one! Not that they have to have a deep meaning - sometimes you can just like something, a design and that's reason enough. But yes, I get the indecision. I'm far too indecisive (on tattoos).

I got my one and only one on a bit of a whim, life events and stuff and I just thought fuck it.

I see it all the time because of where it is but I don't regret it. I really want a full sleeve, I'm just waiting on my next fuck it moment.

I like guys with them and I like guys without them, they don't make anyone instantly attractive. Though they can enhance the rough and ready look which I'm rather a fan of.

I currently don't. I want one (well more than one) but just not getting around to it. It's not something I have my sights set on and must achieve.

When the time is right (money, time, committed to the design) I will get one.

As to if it makes me attractive to others, or if if I find tattoos attractive. To the former, I don't really care if it does, I will be tattooed for myself.

To the latter, tattoos alone are not attractive, some do enhance people and some dont. Basically I wouldn't be attracted nor turned off because of tattoos alone.

The one exception I'd say in terms of attraction because of tattoos is, people are expressing themselves through the art. The designs they have they clearly like and says a fair bit about them. It's a visual representation of a part of their vibe and personality.

I have none and never will, when me and my mates were all young a local place opened and almost every single one of my mates went and got them, at the time tattoos were still quite crudely drawn compared to the quality of todays and most regret and have had them covered up

I didn’t get them as the more people that do something the less likley I am to do it, I never ever follow the crowd on anything, I regard not getting them as one of my greatest decisions in life especially now that seemingly the whole world have them

I don’t dislike them and can appreciate nice ones and have had 2 girlfriends that were covered in them it’s just not for me, plus they hide muscle definition and vascularity

Interesting question got me thinking, I don't think I have ever seen a girl with tattoos where a tattoo has ever made her more attractive.

I think a tramp stamp is sometimes a turn on. It gives me the impression (probably falsely) that she's a bit slutty. But other than that, can't think I've ever thought they make someone more attractive, but I know I have seen plenty who became less attractive by having tats.

Just a personal opinion.

As long as I can remember, I knew I would have tattoos... it just took me a long time to choose the right design. When I decide on another, I will have that done.

I don't however think that tattoos make someone more or less attractive. Some people really suit a tattoo, others don't... but sexy is sexy, tattoo or not.

I quite like them on a woman if they're feminine and pretty, and easy to cover up if needed.

And whilst I find them interesting to talk about, I find sleeves and torsos covered in tats a turn off. Even when naked it looks like they're still clothed which doesn't do it for me. I'm not judging, just not my thing.

I've never seen a tattoo that looks good (imo) I don't want something on my body that I will probably regret and will fade and look even worse on my old wrinkled body after 40 years.

If I want to do something sentimental I'd buy a personalised memento to honour a loved one instead.

That being said others can obviously do what they want with their bodies.

I don't have any myself. There are times when I have liked/like the idea, but a combination of reasons mean I'm unlikely to ever have one. Never being sure enough, not knowing what I'd want, not liking the permanence, being worried about the pain, just thinking it would look stupid on me...

I (Mr) have no tattoos.

In my younger days they were not that fashionable and could have an effect on job prospects.

I worked in a few places where "visible" tattoos were not allowed on customer facing staff. One guy I worked with had a couple and was never allowed to wear short sleeves at work. Imagine that today.

As time went on it was not something I really thought about. It just wasn't important to me so I never bothered.

I've nothing against them and one or two is fine, but I'm not attracted to heavily tattooed people. Neither is Mrs.

I don't have one and don't imagine I ever will. Mostly because I hate needles and the thought of having one against my skin for however long it takes gives me the willies. And I've never thought of anything that I'd want enough to make the process worthwhile (unless they can tattoo a different body onto my body - I might consider that).

But women with tattoos can be extremely hot.

Mr got his first 2, this year. Always liked them, and even had some planned in his head. It just wasn't something we prioritised for a while. I got my half sleeve, and it ignited his visions again. I got him a voucher for my artist. He's a little iffy with needles, so that was half a reason, too. He's got the bug now!

I like tattoo's, have a tattoo book for my art inspiration, yet I don't have one. I think some can be very artistic & creative. I don't actively dislike them. So why then?

I did think I might have a Japanese Koi Karp or a Chinese brush painting scene. But I know as soon as I get one I won't be happy with it or want something else.... By which time it's too late & laser surgery?

So, I think I'm just damn too fussy too.... The design would have to be better than I could do also.

I'd want to see their portfolio & if they can't prove to me they are exceptional then I'm out of here like a dragon off "Dragon's Den". No thank you I'm "ooot of here..."

Oh! Hi Frida! I have a similar tale - the closest I've come to getting a tattoo is when I was 20 and ended things with my first girlfriend. I really wanted to get a naff little flower (with sentimental meaning) but my grandma (who I was living with at the time) told me they were common and various other things. Being rather impressionable I didn't get it done and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't as I'd hate it now.

Ear curations are beautiful! I've got my helix, three lobe and a tragus so far. Currently taking advantage of the sales to upgrade a couple of pieces. Hope yours goes well! x

I love tattoos on women, but I think they have to suit the individual. I've seen some that I would consider 'off putting'.

I don't have any, or any piercings and I kinda like that as they are very mainstream nowadays. I love tattoos on others and do find them sexy but I've just never thought of one on me as something I consistently desire. I did consider it a while back, just a small one somewhere discrete but after a week or two I was like "ooo no" so it was clearly a passing fad. My friend has many and all are beautiful with very salient significance and I respect that. As a side, I saw another friend yesterday who'd had one lazer removed and I was amazed at the result! Not a trace left, and I remember the tattoo when he had it done.

I’ve not got any tattoos myself - there’s been nothing significant enough or pertinent in my life that would convince me to have it tattooed. As for decoration they’ve become a bit of a cliche - anybody with those shit ‘tribal’ tattoos or has cartoon / anime I judge harshly. There’s some beautiful tattoos I admire on others though - fine artwork or commemorative pieces. I’ve known too many people that regret having some tattoos done.

My grandfather who ran away to sea at thirteen had some of the traditional sailors tattoos- fouled anchors and swallows etc. India ink and a needle by shipmates. They meant something to those superstitious mariners but I wasn’t inspired to get any myself

I've got some tattoos but being honest I wish I'd never had any of them. If I had the money I would have them all lasered off.

They're not particularly bad (nor offensive) nor are they of anyone's name or anything. They also aren't visible when I'm wearing normal clothes unless I'm wearing a T-shirt but they are the reason I don't wear T-shirts in summer very much. One is actually a cover-up of a tattoo I was particularly disappointed with. I should probably point out all of them except the cover-up were done before I was 18.

I'm certainly not trying to tell anyone whether they should or should not get one but anyone with "virgin skin" should probably bear in mind they are kind of permanent.
