Deep cleavage, why?

Jump to newest

East Midlands

Some ladies prefer deeper than average cleavage in daily life (outside, office, ...) . This is of course great for us gents. But why? What's the point?

If a gent is caught "ogling" we get rolling eyes.

If it's cold and windy outside, just why suffer?

If you already know your boobs are epic and feel good about them, why show them off 20-30%.

Wish to know ladies' reasons/logic.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Some clothes I wear at times give me a deep cleavage .Why because I have big boobs and that is just the way they fit into a particular outfit I have no option but to show cleavage. I wear those clothes because sometimes I like to dress up to feel good about myself rather than wearing baggy clothes that make me feel frumpy all the time which is really the only other option. I DO NOT wears clothes so that men think it's okay to blatantly stare at my cleavage and I don't actually understand the mentality of any grown man who would think that oggling at a woman because she is showing some cleavage is okay or the right thing to do. Yes I understand that you may notice and glance but to keep doing it and then act like it's a surprise when the person may roll their eyes at you shows a complete lack of maturity.

"I get that ladies want to. And it's not always about gents. But why ladies want to? That's the question. "

Because 80 per nice dressy clothes that fit me make me have a cleavage it's not easy to find clothes that don't unless I want to wear baggy ill fitting clothes all the time. There isn't a lot of outfits that cater to women with large boobs. Even something like a polo neck top will make me look ridiculously top heavy. So ye that's why we sometimes show cleavage. In fact I often have to pin clothes so that I can cover up more.

Why does it bother you what someone wears anyhow. It's their choice and in the end has nothing to do with you and not a reason to oggle women because of their clothes.

They like how they look and feel isn't enough of an answer? Because they want to should be satisfactory for you, if you need to question it.

Also, cleavage on show is going to catch a few eyes, it's a given some people will have a look, but ogling (your term) is creepy. Not cool, or wanted. Discomfort from oglers is one reason some women don't do it all the time.

If you have big boobs you can wear the same top as someone with smaller ones. Yours can look low cut, and their's can look higher. If we wear polo necks we look matronly or smothered.

Let us wear what we want, avert your gaze and look at your own boobs.

Hi OP, if the cleavage is deep then it's probably because they have above-average sized breasts. It's simply an anatomical thing as opposed to something relating to preference, aesthetics or the visual appeal and entertainment for the general public. There is no "why" or any "point" about this, nor any "reasons" or "logic".

Leave them to go about their business.

I love dressing up as I spend most of my time in gym kit. I have plenty of outfits that I enjoy wearing as they make me feel good & confident in my appearance. If they show cleavage, so be it... The whole ensemble is for me & me only. If men choose to glance at any cleavage on show, I'm not bothered tbh, hopefully they appreciate the total look of what I'm wearing... But quite frankly, IDGAF either way. I'm wearing the outfit for me not them.

1.women do not make clothes, designers and manufacturers do

2. women with a sizeable cleavage tend to look better in a design that is gathered below the cleavage and is low cut.

3. You may have overlooked that women aren't exactly jumper shaped.

I don't wear full make up at home but I always wear lipstick, even if I'm not going out. I also wear nice clothes even if I'm staying home alone. To me it's about self respect.

"I get that ladies want to. And it's not always about gents. But why ladies want to? That's the question.

It doesn't bother me at all. I bet it doesn't bother most men. Why would you assume I bothers me/us? In fact we appreciate the beauty of fem curve. I was just asking a question to know ladies reasons/motivation for cleavage, it's this simple.

"100% agreed it's free will, but this doesn't answer the question.

The question was, why do it?

They like how they look and feel isn't enough of an answer? Because they want to should be satisfactory for you, if you need to question it.

Also, cleavage on show is going to catch a few eyes, it's a given some people will have a look, but ogling (your term) is creepy. Not cool, or wanted. Discomfort from oglers is one reason some women don't do it all the time.

"

Thanks, learning... Admittedly ogling is likely the wrong term. I did not mean in the sense of making someone uncomfortable. Let's change this to glancing, noticing, appreciating, I think this are better terms.

Some bras give a deep cleavage. I prefer to keep the girls well under control. I find this more comfortable and gives me a better shape than when they're dangling round my belly button. This makes my clothes hang better, gives me a more favourable (to me) silhouette which in turn makes me feel better about myself. The clothes on top of the undergarments - depending on the time of year or the occasion - may mean that my cleavage is occasionally visible. Simple as that

I don't even understand what you mean in the OP. What do you mean why.? Women have breasts, some women have larger breasts than others, and therefore more of a cleavage perhaps. I don't get up in the morning and think about what clothes to wear, depending on if it will show cleavage or not. If it does, so what? I just wear clothes I like and feel comfortable in.

Good question I have no reason to do so, and you likely know this So this might be a curveball question. But if I had boobs, I'd likely unbutton my shirt to attract attention, to show off my assets, to see if anyone, maybe even targeted person, the one I want to notice would notice me. And if it's hot, just to cool off a bit. Does my reasoning make sense? If not, this is why I'm asking.

The reasons women dress as they do areas individual and varied as women themselves.

I have a friend who won't leave the house in short sleeves because she doesn't want to 'stand out'.

Another friend who wears mini skirts because she likes his they look with boots.

Someone else who only wears black because she thinks it makes her look slimmer.

Yet another who wear leggings and a long top because it's comfortable.

Glad it's not just me, find it interesting that women's motives over what they wear is dissected. Where I can't think I've ever given much thought to mens motives. "

This is really good point. We may think more (dissect) about women's motives due to the fact that women are more complex creatures. And men are "simpler" creatures.

Why have you not ever given much thought to men's motives? I'd imagine... because you are not motivated to, perhaps? In more simplistic terms, women pic men and not the other way around.

"Some ladies prefer deeper than average cleavage in daily life (outside, office, ...) .

Surely at 45 you should know that not everything women do is for the benefit of men?"

Of course I know that and have no problem with this. But that does not answer my question.

Say, deep/open reveal cleavage you're sporting, is for you only, makes you feel more confident, more attractive to yourself in the mirror, is in line with the aesthetics of the rest of your outfit. Great! But, why does the cleavage do that for you? I'm looking for the "real" reason, not superficial "throwaway, stop negging me" answer.

When I get dressed I’m not really looking at how my body looks in the clothes but how the cloths look on my body. I like putting thought into my outfit, I buy the clothes because I like the clothes. If a dress happens to have a low cut neckline and look good on a deep cleavage then that’s how it’s getting worn.

If I get leered at by someone, my skin will crawl for about 30 seconds then I get on with my day. I do not give them anymore thought. It’s really not about men’s opinions.

That being said, I do want women to compliment me in the ladies loos. The most genuine of compliments.

2. women with a sizeable cleavage tend to look better in a design that is gathered below the cleavage and is low cut.

3. You may have overlooked that women aren't exactly jumper shaped.

Interesting. I'm not sure this answer/logic has much traction. Here is my reasoning. Let's say you are home alone, and you have a flu, headache, throat ache, a bit of fever. So you can't be bothered with lipstick and nice clothes..., say you stay in your PJs whole day. Would this diminish your self respect? I think not. So, I'm not sure how does lipstick/nice clothes at home translate to self respect? Dressing nicely for having a coffee with a friend, does indeed translate to self respect, I think. Even more, it shows respect for your friend as well.

But I'm with you on this, I agree!

The problem is that according to a lot of women's opinions, men were not supposed to enjoy the cleavages. If we dare to do so, we are either immature, or religious, or convinced that ladies only dress for men and are asking to be harassed..., according to one lady, we should remain in our father's ball sack = should never be born.

So tread carefully my friend! It's a minefield, you might need a special permission to enjoy a nice cleavage.

It's billions of years of evolution that has conditioned male homo sapiens to notice and be attracted to female homo sapiens sexual assets. So It's pretty clear to everyone, that a good pair of boobs WILL attract men's attention. You surely know this, correct? And, true some men may be a bit too obvious for comfort and this is bad. But a glance, a wink, just an expression of appreciation, is this not better than to pretend we didn't notice anything? Or would you feel much better if the world would absolutely forget about your assets on obvious, whether intentional or unintentional, display. Look, I'm just asking questions, because I find this topic fascinating. I'm not judging or assuming anything.

You are essentially asking me to think/feel like a woman. I'm sorry but I just can't do that. Personal tailoring, lower cut=movement in shoulders/arms... I just can't compute that

It's like me asking you to think about the benefits of boxers/underwear for men. More space for balls hang low when it's hot, spreading legs when sitting down. You do know that it makes a world of difference for men to spread the legs when sitting down so that we don't overheat the balls, or pinch the balls against tight undies. Some truck/bus drivers actually end up with lower sperm count due to occupation. Try thinking like a men . Do you know that a simple scratch of men's crotch make a world of difference when a men get's an each on the balls.. If not scratched, it can reeeeallllly become uncomfortable.

My point is, I reasoned as best as I could about the unbuttoned shirt. Everything else never crossed my mind, why should it? I can't imagine having boobs, let alone how this would feel. I sure as hell can't imagine someone paying me/us men attention due to showing off cleavage, but I can imagine one on a woman, and boy oh boy it looks good So good in fact, I really want her to know that I noticed that she is smoking hot. After all, isn't this the most genuine thing to do?

Well, whatever the situation, men are now conditioned to supress this, and we simply pretend we notice nothing, nada, zilch, .. Eyes always up. What we are thinking is of course a different universe

But I do have a feeling that one of my colleagues my be trying to send a message, or get my attention, or may be flirting... how in the world would I know?

I simply see the actions/behaviour, compute the occurrences of skimpy daring dress + our interactions, and try to figure out what is her angle.

But my question is deeper than this, I just generally wish to know, why cleavage? Especially if/when there is no apparent reason for it.

I could ask the same question about, short skirts, skimpy tops, high heals, stockings, makeup, over the top hair, ... you name it. I just focused on cleavage for now

"What makes you think women are more complex than men and that women pick men? "

Multiple reasons but will reason like this:

Say a couple is getting dressed for a party. The guy is done in 10 min, start to finish. But the lady takes good 3-4 hours (hair saloon - booked 2 weeks ahead, makeup, clothes, shoes....everything has to be colour matched to everything else, including the purse, the wallet, jewelry, and in the end she is somehow in charge so that his dress/appearance is matched to her's,.. etc.

Which creature is more complex and which more simple? Not hard to answer is it?

For women picking men:

Here is the reasoning, but you can see this in real life or in any TV show or online or in book.

Line up 100 women and 100 men.

They need to pick each other for a date. 100 men will pick various women, in a statistically normal distribution called the bell curve. But all 100 women will pick maybe only the upper 5% of the most appealing men. This means 95 men out of 100 will not be picked even once. Why is that? Because women will pick only top men regardless of their own appeal-ranking. Essentially, all women will want to "punch above their waist" in picking the top men, even if they themselves are not even close to the top 5% in appeal.

Or to put it in another evolutionary way, eggs are precious, sperm is not precious. So, women are picking men. Even here on Fab it's obvious. 95-ish % percent of all Fab members are men. So women can pick the best-of the best-of the best, for fabbing/swinging. And most men never get picked at all, no matter the effort.

I'm not renting here, just answering the question as best and as clearly as I can.

"I get that ladies want to. And it's not always about gents. But why ladies want to? That's the question. "

That's a simple answer to this. Any behaviour that commonly causes a creature to feel good, gives enjoyment or is enjoyable has a evolutionary purpose. It's why sugar and fat are used to make food taste nice, why kittens play, why we feel good when we're dressed in a way that's socially considered to be sexy.

That's's not a fashionable opinion but it's pretty hard to argue against. When I start to see threads asking why do many women walk around Blue Water wearing their slippers and dressing gowns and see answers saying 'it's not about the male gaze, it's about me and I feel good dressed like that" I'll maybe reconsider.

It's funny how the clothes that we all (men included) choose to wear because they make us "feel good" as opposed to because they comfy/warm/practical/cheap etc, are always clothes that will be viewed by many as being attractive.

As you so clearly express with your question though, most people don't think about this - or at least don't want to because the implications don't fit with their world view.

Evolution has ensured that behaviours that increase the chances of survival and/or reproduction are rewarded by enjoyable feelings - of something feels good it sure as shit has a past that is rooted in revolutionary success.

"Some ladies prefer deeper than average cleavage in daily life (outside, office, ...) .

Surely at 45 you should know that not everything women do is for the benefit of men?

Of course I know that and have no problem with this. But that does not answer my question.

Say, deep/open reveal cleavage you're sporting, is for you only, makes you feel more confident, more attractive to yourself in the mirror, is in line with the aesthetics of the rest of your outfit. Great! But, why does the cleavage do that for you? I'm looking for the "real" reason, not superficial "throwaway, stop negging me" answer.

Lots of women are telling you the reasons but you keep asking for more. Are you trying to elicit a particular answer? "

I admit, I may be bit naughty. Because the WHY question is a tricky one. One can drill WHY for ever. I'm trying to get a bit deeper answer than just a simple "because we can, because we like it, because it's not about men, ...). Some answers were brilliant, but some were downright disrespectful. I'm still happy to read them all and invite everyone to chat. the rest is up to the Mod.

"When I get dressed I’m not really looking at how my body looks in the clothes but how the cloths look on my body.

Why do you think women are doing it for men's benefit? "

Well the Op doesn't know why women do it he's asking to be fair ,having thought about it myself its lovely to see them on show but like the OP said if you catch a guy ogling them and it upsets you the woman with the cleavage ,he asked why do it .Are you saying it looks better for that woman to show them off and not have to worry about the ogling which she obviously is bothered about ,so the Op asked if it bothers that woman then why put yourself in that position ?

Women compliment clothes, men don’t as a general rule. I’ve been stopped before by a man asking where I got my scarf as his wife wanted one in the same colour and couldn’t find one. I took that as a compliment because it was my first time wearing it and I was glad it was noticed. Those compliments are great

The whole ensemble is for me & me only. If men choose to glance at any cleavage on show, I'm not bothered tbh, hopefully they appreciate the total look of what I'm wearing... But quite frankly, IDGAF either way. I'm wearing the outfit for me not them.

With my full respect. This is the best, honest straightforward answer we've got so far on this thread. You do you! And this my forum friends, is how a hot/confident/sexy/independent/strong woman reads like!

"It's an interesting topic. I have a question for the women who say they dress to feel good about themselves due to how they look. Would you dress your best and wear all your slap if you were alone on a desert island, at home entirely on your own for the day or somewhere where there was nobody else around at all?

I don't wear full make up at home but I always wear lipstick, even if I'm not going out. I also wear nice clothes even if I'm staying home alone. To me it's about self respect.

I was meeting a friend for coffee recently and she exclaimed "you always dress so nicely". I was bemused, why wouldn't I?

Interesting. I'm not sure this answer/logic has much traction. Here is my reasoning. Let's say you are home alone, and you have a flu, headache, throat ache, a bit of fever. So you can't be bothered with lipstick and nice clothes..., say you stay in your PJs whole day. Would this diminish your self respect? I think not. So, I'm not sure how does lipstick/nice clothes at home translate to self respect? Dressing nicely for having a coffee with a friend, does indeed translate to self respect, I think. Even more, it shows respect for your friend as well.

Are you telling me that I'm wrong when I say that dressing nicely is about self respect *to me*? Of course I don't dress up when I have flu. That's self respect too because I'm concentrating on getting well.

🤷‍♀️"

No I'm not telling you you're wrong. I can't/would never do that. Only you know you and your feelings. I just found it hard to follow the pure logic of it. And I explained my reasoning.

Of course focusing on getting better when sick, makes perfect sense

"I ware a suit when I must, but rather not, and don't when on my own time. I ware what I want, I see not reason why a lady can't do the same without some man considering it an invitation 🤔 "

This is the problem with this type of thread, too many people attempt the logically impossible of driving an ought from an is.

Acknowledging that dressing in a certain way "is" likely to gain male attention is not the same as acknowledging it ought to - nor indeed does it suggest that it ought not.

There seems to be a refusal to accept that there way a woman dresses affects the way she is viewed by others -despite the obvious fact that we are all patiently aware that clothing carries clear signals. No woman would stream of turning up at a friend's wedding in a white dress, no one walks up to a person in police uniform and offers them dr!gs.

This trial appears to be based on the bizarre belief that acknowledging a certain stress style is going to have a sexual appeal to men also means agreeing that this gives men the right to act on that appeal.

We all feel good when we know we look attractive to others and whether we want to admit it or not, we get that feeling *because* we are aware we are dressed in a way that is appealing. That doesn't mean others have the right to do anything. "Is" sexy doesn't imply *ought* to expect unwanted attention.

Not at all, raising (human) children is more likely to be successful with a devoted father so while women given free choice may well choose to pick the top 5% - or whatever figure is claimed, it doesn't imply that this works out in practice. In real life, women want there own partner so have to choose from who is available. In species where multiple females mate with one male, this is exactly what happens.

It is a fact that there are far more men on here wanting to see their (female) partner with another man than the other way around. The argument above proposes a model that would also expect this to be the case. If another man thinks there's a possibility he is the father of any offspring there is a higher chance of him helping look after them - even if in fact he isn't. Allowing your partner to have sex with others pays off for men, if they are the most regular sexual partner but allow occasional others, there's a good chance they will father offspring that others have a vested interest in protecting. On the other hand, a woman who has to share the emotional and physical support of her male partner is going to reduce her her chances of successfully passing on her genes.

All human behaviour has a reason, we may not like those reasons, may find them distasteful or even immoral but that doesn't change anything.

P"

I 100% agree, amen

For all the people asking why I was not satisfied with some answers. It's because those were a throwaway couple words non-answers (a.e. because we can, free will, not about men,...).

As the Neil deGrasse Tyson would say: "Universe is under no obligation to make sense to us." Sometimes the obvious scientific reason does not fit into our preferred narrative/social programming, but this still doesn't mean it's not true. Therefore, in simple terms, women/men love to show off their "sexual assets", because this attracts the attention of mostly the opposite sex. And this makes us feel confident, attractive, important, interesting, feel goooooood about ourselves

So, when men stare too long and ladies find this appealing/unappealing, just think that men evolved this way and now must fight their own instincts. And ladies actually like it (perhaps), but will never admit to it, I guess? And if some ladies truthfully don't like it, try to be patient, maybe a bit more understanding or simply tell the guy, "eyes up please".

No, there is a bit of a flaw in your logic. Of course 95% of men are not single. I was explaining why women are the ones picking men (doing the selection) and not the other way around. If you think this through for real life, in the end all 100 men and women will end up in 100 pairs, but the way the picking is done (psychologically) is the way I described. First 5% of men get picked, then next top 5%, then next top 5%, ...etc, until all the pairs are formed. I hope this is clear now Please understand this is conceptual thinking from first principles to explain the concept of female-driven selection of men. In reality there will always be 95% men on Fab Most are never picked.

But there is an interesting consequence to this. The most appealing men will likely be able to mate with multiple willing women. Historically, this is how it was.

So, you're saying every woman picks the top 5%, then drops to the next 5%, then down to the next 5%? Who decides who is in which percent bracket? What if you think you're in the top 5%, for instance, and I think you're in the bottom 5%?

"What makes you think women are more complex than men and that women pick men?

Hmm. So by this logic 95% if men are are single? This is obviously not so

I've heard this theory before and I don't agree with it.

What if you think you're in the top 5%, for instance, and I think you're in the bottom 5%?"

It's an extremely flawed argument isn't it.
