Actually, the one thing that did surprise people, when my daughter was a baby, was how good I was with her. By this, I mean that quite a few people who knew my wife and I superficially, or by association, thought I was vaguely scary and dark (yeah, no idea...). Anyway, they apparently couldn't see me interacting with children, and got a surprise seeing me carrying my little girl, playing with her, talking to her, and generally just being a normal dad. This was especially something expressed by women. It still makes me laugh.
