A bit of fun on this Autumnal evening.

When I was a kid, many, many years ago, I wanted to be a Chef. Sadly, my culinary dreams never progressed beyond O level Home Economics

Perhaps you aspired to be a ballet dancer or astronaut. How many of you achieved your childhood dreams? Did you reach for the sky as a NASA astronaut or end up working for NatWest?

Wanted to be a chef and an astronaut (not at the same time).

Also wanted to be a programmer for the world's largest I/T company.

Did the I/T thing for almost 3 decades, got lots of £'s, other things happened and probably now retired!

So the spaceman/astronaut stuff I will pass. Doing a lot of cooking, my sense of taste/smell is very strong so can make some epic dishes and tweak the flavours to make anything epic.

What I didn't realise till recently that I naturally can do Reiki/Energy work. Currently learning Reflexology.

So exploring doing energy work, counselling, mentoring, coaching for a future career, can do this remote or in person; interested? x

On the "unrealistic" side I wanted to be Han Solo, or a flying superhero. Flying was a big thing.

More realistically, a spy or a writer.

I've worked with spies (supplied cars to embassies, although spies don't really talk about spying. They just get caught, and you know then), and I've written a book.

It was shit.

But at least I wroted it.

Most of the actual career has been sales and new business - media or cars.

Unless, of course, I am a spy and that's just my cover story....

I'd still rather just be Han Solo though.

Architect... but with uni being the only way into it at the time and a long course to achieve it, the cost made it prohibitive.

I did though come close to buying a hotel and that was a pretty damn cool dream... but private investor pulled out at the last minute.

Have always been self employed though and became a mechanical engineer and ran a steam railway and as part of that taught myself 3d cad design... so technical drawing of sorts.

Now I'm a carer for my parents though... and that's harder than any of the above

It can still happen.

I wanted to be a vet, had an offer at uni but doing 5 A levels with a newborn baby in tow was just a bit much and I didn't make the grade.

Ended up being a scientist in industry and research for a bit then retrained as a teacher. Got into a niche, worked my way up the ranks a bit and here I am.

After we had children I didn't want any responsibility so while they were small I did a variety of part time jobs then ended up doing something else thar I was moderately good at until I retired.

I find it odd that we put so much pressure on kids to make choices and decisions around what kind of job they will do. I never had a clue! I worked as a chef, a boat builder software engineer & finance director to name a few, I never wanted to be any of those, probably a soldier or a pirate!

It's odd isn't it, especially when you consider that a high proportion of people are probably going to do a job they wouldn't actively choose in an ideal world.

If I could choose anything at all to do for money it would probably be an archaeologist or historian but fortunately I can read so I did those things for pleasure and it never became a chore. 🤷‍♀️

I’m still a nerd when it comes to aviation. I’ve read books on Skunk Works 🦨 the U2 and SR 71 spy planes. I’ve seen my favourite plane the F-22 Raptor in person and I fully intend on going up in an F-16. They have 2 seater jets in the US that take civilians up. They may even pull a 9G turn if they think you’re up to it. Fuck yeah 🤘

When I was young I wanted to be like

My father, a builder. As soon as I could carry bricks i was on building sites watching learning.

When older I wanted to be a psychiatrist when I was doing my A levels. Didnt get there. I ran pubs and then fell back into construction. Been at the high stressful end of the construction spectrum but now quite happy being just one of the numptys on site. All be it, one of the eldest and over qualified numptys !
