I am not into it so much, but sometimes it can be fun to catch up of what is happening in the celeb world, weather it is about reading about kate middleton in the hello magazine or something similar like what is the latest about kate price or who got married.

Isnt it interesting of why we take pleasure in hearing about their plans, is it because tabloid scandals are just so interesting and you can lose yourself hours reading about it?

It would be interesting to see if you are into it and how much are you up to date with what is going on in the celeb world?

I'm far too busy enjoying my own life to need to worry about what total strangers are getting up to!

No not at all. Dislike the low brow nature of so much of our preoccupation with the tiniest of utterances of people who are famous for being famous one minute and then castigated for the slight mistakes they might make. Dreadful cultural desert.

I find the word celebrity in itself repulsive.

Most that are passed off as celebrities really aren't people worth celebrating. They are usually bad actors, piss poor pop 'stars' etc. They can keep their made up stories and exciting news on who is fucking who and shove them up their butt.

No. I honestly wouldn’t know a kardashian if they knocked on my door. I’ve heard of them but don’t have a clue what they look like. Even the big film stars I hear about I’d have no idea.

I always find it ironic when a certain telly quiz utilises actors/performers on its books - you couldn't get a more apposite description than "Pointless Celebrities".

Most people only want to hear gossip that's detrimental to someone's life or character and don't really show interest if it's something good. I'm good enough with my own life, what anyone else is doing is none of my business.

Not bought a newspaper in years, not since all the phone hacking stuff came out. What these journalists do in the name of gossip is appalling

I have no interest in knowing what goes on in people's lives. The media influence can be dangerous and detrimental to mental health and wellbeing

Most of the UK papers aren't worth a damn at the best of times.

Celeb gossip annoys the fuck out of me.

It's not in the national interest (ie like knowing if someone is government is taking bribes, or involved in criminal activity) and paparazzi mess up people's lives. Just because someone sings or acts good, we don't own them and they deserve a private life.

The fact that soap characters lives (not the actor the fucking characters) have made front page news is ridiculous.

I think lots of people are interested in celebrity gossip. In my opinion it serves a purpose. Some like to feel superior to them, others identify with them and some just enjoy being fans and feeling that they know someone famous.

I have an acquaintance who talks about Elvis Presley as if he was a personal friend and I know others who refer to members of the royal family or celebrities as if they live next door. Sometimes someone will start a thread about a celebrity or famous people (I'm thinking of Katie Price and Prince Harry and Megan here) and suddenly loads of people who criticise celebrity gossip have an opinion, in depth knowledge of them, their lifestyle and relationships.

I used to when I was at School. But then it was in the form of an “Entertainment” page in the newspaper, nothing like it is now.

Film stars and gossip go hand in hand though. If you read some old Hollywood biographies the Studios used to manufacture relationships between stars, reinvent a stars previous life story, all to sell a film or hide any hint of scandal.

Gossiping is not a new thing. Just the means to gain salacious information about folk has come on in leaps and bounds, and their ways of putting gossip out there has grown.

Sad thing is 'journalists' either actively trying to catch people in scandals by chatting up celebs or offering them drugs.

Or just making stuff up.

In fact, David Niven and another actor in Hollywood once got so pissed off with the papers pursuing them and making stories up about them they decided to get their own back.

They leaked a story that Niven would be seen at a big nightclub with this actor's partner.

Press turn up to catch the scoop. Niven is there in his tux with beautiful woman. Other actor walks in, also dressed to the nines as they did back then.

Room goes quiet as Niven sees the guy and gets up. Both start walking towards each other like they're about to come to blows.

Meet in the middle of the dance floor...

And start waltzing around together.

A thread mainly full of heartening replies.

Until now, I assumed I was the odd one out for not following celebrity culture.

It has always been easy for me not to, particularly as I don't watch television, even if it is switched on when I am at someone else's home (is it ever off in many homes?).

I haven't really got enough time in my life for the things which do interest me.

Having no interest in sports also helps a lot with reducing the number of people whose existence I am aware of!
