Katherine Johnson.

She was an African American mathematician who worked for NASA.

Her groundbraking work helped launch the first American in space and were crucial to the success of John Glenn’s orbital mission in 1962.

As you could imagine she faced a lot of discrimination, and racism due to the colour of skin.

However, it's nice to know her work was highly appreciated and she was eventually given the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Laurie cunninghams niece was my friend and class mate. She was murd37ed along with her mother and sister back in the early 80s. 30 years later a journalist writing a book about Laurie came across this information and started asking questions. Its because of him the case was reopened and the murd37er was finally caught.

Her groundbreaking started long before she worked for NASA. In the 1930's she was working with the FBI to break MAFIA codes that were being used for transporting illegal moonshine and drugs into the USA. Then during WW2 she was instrumental in breaking Japanese naval codes that allowed the Americans to destroy Japanese carriers and destroyers at will towords the end of the war

I have to correct you there:
"Andrew Watson. The worlds'first black football international, in 1881."

From Wikipedia: International career

Watson won three international caps for Scotland. His first cap came against England in London on 12 March 1881, in which he captained the side. Scotland won 6–1, which (as of 2024) is still a record home defeat for England. A few days later, Scotland played Wales and won 5–1, Watson captaining Scotland again.

This list here proves that Black history is far wider reaching than talking about sla very. It’s telling that’s what you think Black History Month is about- here’s another person for you to look up- Carter G Woodson.

Also, there are a lot of days/ months that celebrate the vast majority of groups that you e listed, a quick google would tell you that, or does it bother you specially that Black people would like a moment to reflect on the impact they’ve had on the world, despite hundreds of years of oppression?

So How far in “the past “ is long enough?

10 years? 50 years? 100 years? Just long enough to avoid all the “awkward” stuff?
