I’m needing tyres for the first time on our van & to say I’m confused is an understatement.

I’m using a price comparison website that has recognised my van & told me the size I need. I’m getting some reasonable prices but if refine my search & select commercial vehicle my original searches don’t come up & everything’s more expensive. Does this mean my original searches aren’t suitable even though it recognises I have a van?

Help please.

The size of the tyres are written on the tyres and they have to be the same tyres on the front and the back ,commercial tyre fitters like kwik fit can be expensive try the independent fitters .

Thanks I get that, a price comparison site has given me hundreds of options based on my vans regustration. The size I need is 215 65 16, I’ve found a decent tyre I want but when I refine my search that tyre isn’t there, so is that one not suitable, there’s others from the same brand but loads more money?

Cheeseville, Somerset

Just go online, search for 'tyres', find some at the price point you want and then book a fitting. Most comparison sites offer mobile/home fitting.

It's as simple as that.

They’re van tyres so it makes sense that you’d be your search would be restricted to commercial vehicles.

I’m not sure what the issue is?

Hi OP

Oddly today I bought for my. Mercedes Vito LB 119CDI

Paid £118 each + £2,50 disposal Per tire the brand was called Churchill. They are a deep tread hard compound which gives greater miles. Hope this has been some use. The company that supplied fitted are a really good crowd in this tiny corner of Hampshire. Use them for many years.

Standard car tyres can't take the extra weight commercial vans have when they are fully loaded so they will be excluded from the search, commercial tyres have stronger sidewalls and whatnot to take the extra load and will cost more.

The issue is I do a normal search from the site & it brings up a tyre I want at a price I’m happy with, all based on my vehicles reg. if I further refine my search & select commercial vehicle that tyre isn’t available. So why not order the tyre from the first search because I’m not sure it’s a van tyre even though the site knows I have a van.

Need to make sure the weight is suitable for the vehicle van tyres are rated higher, normally need to be a bit over a quarter of the max gross weight of van but check max axle load also as that can effect it can still be illegal even if all 4 add up to more than the gross weight but the back 2 added together are less that the max load of back axle

Second Black Circles - even Tyre Places say that they can’t beat their prices and just fit them now. You don’t need ‘commercial’ tyres - you need the right sized tyres with the correct load rating for the weight of the vehicle (when fully loaded). I believe that the Black Circles website will ‘choose’ the correct tyres for the vehicle if searching by registration.

You also need to know the speed and load rating, might say something like 96R after the above and possibly have extra load elsewhere. You should have a fair few commercial/agricultural specialists down Bristol direction.

215 65 16c 8pr are van tyres usually something like 108 ISH after the size and yes they are more expensive as they are commercial tyres designed to carry the load and are 8 ply radial where cars are 4 to 6 ply

Cheapest price is not always the cheapest solution in the long run depends how long you intend to keep the vehicle, have used cheaper brands in the past but often the grip is crap last few times have stuck with michelin normally mud/snow type depends what type of driving you do is motorway or b roads etc. Pot holes are a bastard tho if you wreck a good un.

What sort of van is It .??

I would stay clear of the tyre monkeys like Kwik fit they will rip you off , your better to go for a independent garage. Don't go mega cheap as tyres are the most important things on a car as they hold you to the road , go for something midrange ...if you need anymore help pm
