I love tattoos and have always wanted one. So I'd like to know if you have one in a place you regretted? What's the most painful place? I appreciate that it is not licked on by kittens but I'm a big chicken! And any other advice welcome.

Wherever

I have 5 and have never regretted the single one, as they all are unique and have meaning. I don’t find them particularly painful, I almost nod to sleep while having them done.

I did change my mind last minute though about the placement. I wasn’t brave enough to have one done on my stomach and opted for a thigh instead.

Not the North West...

I only have one on my wrist and don't regret it, I want a full sleeve but I'm indecisive as to what to get.

.

I have had a lot, as you can see. They are mildly addictive in a weird way but by far the most painful area was working round my elbow.

Hope you take the plunge and create something you enjoy looking at x

Have a half back and two half sleeves. No regrets

Tattoos can be very personal. People who regret tatts tend to have gotten them very young, while d*unk or on an impulse.

I had specific designs in mind and have a good tattooist.

Advice?

- Do your research, look at portfolios, and find a tattooist whose style you like. Talk to them, find someone you trust

- These people are artists. You and they will enjoy making something original rather than just something picked off the wall.

- If you're worried about the design, get it sketched out etc. and stick it on your wall l. If 6 months or a year later you look at and still go,'Wow' or it still makes you smile you should be okay

- If you're worried about placement, whether or how it will change over time. Ask. A good tattooist will be more than happy to answer questions especially if they know this is your first.

- Pain varies. We're all wired differently. Generally I feel like I'm being scratched a bit. As far as pain goes, the more sensitive the body part the more it hurts. So my back and arms were fine. But near my armpits and on my traps could feel pinchy.

- Aftercare. As your tattooist about aftercare and healing. Generally takes a couple of weeks. Everyone has a favourite aftercare balm. Mine is soothe ink by Bimble ( I know the owner).

Hope that helps

My belly was horrendous. It’s the closest I’ve came to tapping out. My neck was surprisingly the least painful of all of mine. I don’t regret any of them.

Herts

The discomfort is temporary the change is permanent. So focus on what you want and where and don’t worry about if it’ll hurt.

Almost find the sensation therapeutic.

It tends to distract me from reality.

And when you're an overthinker that's a welcome break!

Did find the upper inner arm close to arm pit rather tender though!

I have 4, regret the one on my wrist, I had it done on a whim about 15 years ago and want to have it covered with something. The other 3 I still love, and I planned ahead to have those which is probably why.

4 butterflies of descending sizes from my ankle to top of foot. It did hurt quite a bit. Had a water bottle that I squeezed while being jabbed. Happy with the result though. Now want more. Left arm sleeve, panther on calf, bows at back of thigh, tramp stamp, maybe even a womb tattoo!!

I only have the one, on the back of my right shoulder... hummingbird dipping into petunias... bird coz late mother in law loved them, flowers coz my late mum loved them...

took over 4 hours, didn't hurt, apart from the cramp sitting still that long caused...

healed fast, in a few days... felt a bit hot and stingy like minor sunburn afterwards

no regrets, I love it.

I had close to a finished sleeve on one of my arms when I was 20. Had it completely removed by laser about 10/12 years later. It was bloody painful and expensive.

My advice is to have them in places where they can be covered up if needed.

I've got 9 tattoos and no regrets, each one was done for a reason. I do need to get number 10 done soon, just a case of finding the time for it

I have 5 and each means something to me, do I wish a different artist did my 1st one? Yes but it was one of 2 artists in my area at the time, I am going to get my current artist to redo it in some way to make it look better at some point

Tops of my feet were bad, not so much the tattooing, but not being able to wear shoes for a few days was crap

Worst place, under my boob & rib cage

I have 6. One on my ribs I want to have either reworked or covered. I had it to deploy and it consists of several stars, including one to represent my now ex husband… It’s not been done too well - I went somewhere different as I wanted it healed before I flew out and my usual place was booked up.

I couldn’t say I’ve found them too painful - ribs, spine, nothing was that uncomfortable. Approaching the back of the knee is a bit ouch but nothing awful.

I think tattoos are hot. Especially on women, I love those ones that go on the outside of the thigh and bum

I got my first done for my 40th as I figured it was now or never and don’t regret it! It’s a big one and was 2 full day sessions.. I got another a year later which was the same time again. I’d get my arm sleeved but it’s more about cost than courage. A good artist isn’t cheap.

I say do it. It’s not that painful. I sat for 9 hours straight on one session and I’m no tough guy.

I have full sleeves and full torso front and back. I have some on my legs

With regards to pain of them, for me it depends on a lot of things

How mentally prepared I am

How physically prepared I am as in eaten and hydrated

My general mood

The tattooist themselves

I am sure there is more

Some say the pain is part of the journey. I’m meh to that

For me personally I listen to music. Phase out. Stay as relaxed as possible
