With the emergence of nerds in the forum I thought I'd ask.

Are there any home brewers on the forum, if so what do you brew and how long have you been doing it?

I don't brew but I love me some home brewed races.

Or a cup of Yorkshire tea take your pick.

Haha I currently brew mead as it's not readily available in shops and had some good feedback from my latest batch

Love home brewing!

I mostly make country wines from what I can forage and grow.

Mead is an easy one to make, one day I'll get some bees to produce my own honey for it.

Beers I've only ever done from a kit, not scratch.

Wait... homebrewing is for nerds?

I've found most people who homebrew also have some other nerdism they're involved in

It is pure coincidence that I homebrew and also have nerdy interests

Son returned and plans on home brewing - he wants to do mead, he has also picked a load of pears but they were rock hard, I have in the past brewed beer and also wine.

Got some apple trees planted so aim to make cider in the future.

We have just set up a bee hive, so that will be used next year to provide the honey for the mead.

I do like a drop of Mead , a small brewery on Lindisfarne does a fine Mead indeed .

Unsure of other potential nerdities

The only homebrewing I do is the tabletop roleplaying kind. I'd like to try my hand at making mead, though.

Love home brew, my favourite was a doll. Smallest out of my entire party, but I was a super powerful wizard.

Had some amazing moments shame the dm was a cockwomble.

I like coming up with my own settings. I'm playing with the idea of turning the novel series my wife and I are working on into a tabletop setting: it'd be a kind of Percy Jackson-style thing with demigods teaming up to take on various quests centred on a secret city that all the gods live in.

That wasn't in the *original* plan, but if you want to do some fanfiction...

After reading some of the replies, I think I've realised something...

“This isn't the homebrew I was looking for.” 🤣

Now, if you *really* did mean homebrew from a drinks perspective, I've made Fire Cider before — which isn't actually cider, but I find it's great for banishing colds quickly! 😉👍

I’ve been doing it since I can remember. Seriously I must have been 16yrs when I made my first brew.

A few week ago I made the usual annual Elderflower champagne.

I’ve currently got a ginger beer ready for weekend (a small bbq with sone fab friends 😏)

And also a blackberry wine has just gone into a bucket. I’ve got high hopes for this one.

I love the home making stuff

I'm currently waiting for my 3rd batch of mead or actually it's a Cyser to clear (not even sure if Cyser clears but time and racking will tell)

I used to make cider with the apples and pears from the trees in the garden (one of each). Well what else would you do with them? It would be a waste to throw them away.

I still have some bottles left that I need to relocate.

The ones I need to relocate are still full of cider.

Excellent I started with an OS Map locations of apple trees then the joy of identification

But you are so right - you can only eat so many pies. !!!

Excellent use of fruit if this nature - turn it into cider or vinegar

Not for many years now. I think it was one of my fleeting intrests. I made a few successful Batches of cider. Then my last was an attempt to make Vimto cider. Unfortunately I ended my career on a low. The taste was all off, didn't work flavour wise. Very strong though.

Still have the means and I've been tempted to try knocking up some mead when I find time. Ease back in with something simple.

Sit apples in some brandy and sugar water, add cinnamon sticks and cloves and sit for a few months.

Thank me later

Tried homebrewing. To be honest the juice wasn’t really worth the squeeze. Whole morning of cleaning everything. An afternoon of boilin, cooling and boiling. Then 3/4 weeks wait for something that was decent, but not mind blowing.

It passed some time during lockdown and bought quite a bit of kit to do it. Not done it again in years though.

About 20years ago, for a couple of years, I got a bit obsessive brewing wine from kits. I made about 700 bottles, used wooden corks and shrinkwrap seals. Looked good.

Tasted good 6 months aged, very good 12 months.

I might do some German wheat beer one day

Wheat beer is my favourite. It also hides a few rookie mistakes too.

I have a good supply of apples so make cider. It's dreadful. But allow it to ferment aerobically again with the right culture, and the resulting apple cider vinegar is superb. Also very good for health.
