football.

I'll be honest, I don't like it. Never will. Can't see the point of it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a skill game and I think the players earn every penny they get as they have such a short carreer span, but the game itself. Not for me.

Anyway, to the question.

Is there a sport you detest?

Detest is too strong a word, why let something that you don't like get one in a state?

Some sports I don't get at all but a bit similar to this aspect, it's not worth stressing over..

Ski ing

Hockey

Rugby

I'll save my own time and yours I WONT spectate or participate..... in organised anything really

I like the televised things like gladiators etc and i'll do impromptu challenges for fun but organised..... give me a break from the yawning

"...Is there a sport you detest? "

Lots that don't interest me, not sure I'd say detest, but I've never really seen the point in watching golf. Most of the horse sports I think I'd go as far as saying I detest, mostly they just look cruel and horse dancing just seems silly.

I have tried watching American sports from Baseball to Football (not soccer) I even thought I’d enjoy the bowling but that was quite boring after awhile.

I suppose an American may feel the same about cricket or lawn bowls, so it’s not a criticism just not my thing.

Any that involve animals being forced to perform purely for human entertainment and greed, and which lead to them being killed if they get injured. So horse racing, greyhound racing etc can get in the bin.

You do not need to follow national team nor be a Royalist to be patriotic the two do not go hand in hand.

Not sure if a sport but if the Royal family were a sport I would detest that ??

Or it’s not like there’s 1000’s of other channels to watch on the telly box.

Now, don't get me wrong.

This isn't intended as a poke a football, or even football fans, it is genuinely a question of Sport. (good name for a telly program that it)

Is there a sport, that if televised, you'd actually consider unplugging the telly box from the mains to avoid watching it..?

I could easily argue against some suggestions, but in the end, everyone is different and, after all, we're allowed to have different likes and dislikes.

Yes. American Football.

It's basically turn-based Rugby League that lasts for 4 hours due to the amount of adverts and game stoppages every 5 seconds where they stand around having a mother's meeting reminding the players of what they're supposed to do next.

I mean what else can they possibly say besides "run that way"?

It's perhaps the only sport that more fun as a video game than it is in real life. Overrated trash.

Rugby Union is not quite on the level of being "detestable", but it is a similar brand of shit. I won't go into why again as I already explained my reasons in the thread linked below

Manchester (she/her)

I'm deeply indifferent to football. Living in Manchester, and especially as a "good foreign" many expect me to convert.

When I was younger and wanted to fit in more, I told them I supported Sydney FC. A blatant lie, but my local team apparently, to try to get them off my case.

They'd just have a go at me about the seemingly poor performance of the Socceroos, and accuse me of being a bad loser when they got knocked out of the world cup. (At the time, Australia being in that world cup at all was a big deal, even if I did care)

I've discovered a far more effective method. I drop the s-bomb.

I've yet to find a football fan so ardent that they don't lose their shit after the fourth utterance of the word "soccer". It's a good way to be left alone, which is the goal

The people who don't like it can be just as bad.

Anytime football is being discussed by its enthusiasts on the internet, there's always someone who decides to involve themselves in a topic about something they don't like, purposely just to tell everyone in that discussion how much they don't like it....and because it's football, the world's most popular sport by a huge margin, they think it makes them appear as if they're some free-thinking cultural maverick, when in fact they're just as banal & tedious as the people they complain about.

"The people who like it are worse than the game "

That's getting personal and is unwarranted. We were asked what 'sport'

not what 'people' ..........

Can’t really get my head around cricket. Motor sport ok.

Football-love it! But prefer going to games rather than watching it on TV-the team I support are just 15 minutes walk from my house. They may been in the National League South but they are my local team. Can’t beat the atmosphere of actually being at a match.

Rugby-same-lucky enough to have a top flight side nearby. Go a few times a season-as it’s top level it’s not cheap. My wife hates football but loves rugby. So she comes with me for those. Like watching Wales on TV (Dad is Welsh) on the bucket list to go and see them.

Tennis-yes can be good.

Nothing I detest, but I find motorsports a bit dull. Can still get drawn into F1 though - I can find drama and enjoyment in most sports so this probably isn't the thread for me!

I grew up playing and loving football. It's a skill game, but it's also a team game. There can be a kind of collective artistry when you play with teammates who are on the same wavelength. And it's a game where a single moment can be definitive. It is something I can really appreciate. I never really cared if we won, just how well we played and those moments. It's the same when I watch.

I don't agree that they deserve what they get paid at the highest level. But I don't think they should be criticised for accepting the pay they are offered as individuals.

I don't like the tribalism and violence by 'supporters' who care more about that than they do the game.

"football.

I'll be honest, I don't like it. Never will. Can't see the point of it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a skill game and I think the players earn every penny they get as they have such a short carreer span, but the game itself. Not for me.

Anyway, to the question.

Is there a sport you detest? "

Never been a fan of football. Would prefer a kick about on the field with mates.

I don't like cricket much, tennis is boring. I prefer more extreme sports that make me go wow! And F1 or anything with cars.

Football doesn't annoy me but attitudes towards it do, especially when it incites racism and violence.....it's just a game, I don't understand people getting their knick knacks in a knot over overpaid blokes kicking a ball about a field
