"Those people who are lazy and have an awful attitude only Interested in a pay packet and not doing a proper job. Especially when you have to overcompensate by not only doing your job but covering their ass to ensure that it doesn't reflect badly on you. " Yeah In my case it’s called management!!

If I can get payed doing bare minimum, I'm doing it ![]() That's fine if what you are doing doesn't affect others but if you say work smarter and someone else has to pick up your slack then it's not smarter it's just lazy.

"I hear you there. It's the amount if sick days certain people take that fuck me off, the same few, it's like they discuss who will be off next as they take it in turn. If it's mot sickness it's an attitude of entitlement they have when asking for time off. I have been having a lot of hospital and dental appointments lately usually either during my lunch hour or on my time off because I don't want to impact on work, still got more appointments upcoming and tempted to just book them for whenever because the people who book hen parties and pop concerts and expect the early finishes don't give a crap. " Work are legally obliged to give people a certain amount of time off. And if it’s for medical appointments, they can’t say no. I don’t like the culture of having to “request” what they’re obliged to give people, or having to justify it in some way.

"Speaking from experience. A lot of these people are trapped in their jobs, have issues, want a better life, hate the daily grind, have no freedom. Our economy is terrible at assigning people jobs they will find meaningful and be effective at. If you like your job consider yourself very lucky. " I get that but I hated my job towards the end. I still did it though and got paid exactly the same as the people with half my success rate.

"It's not helped by lazy and inept management structures being unable to truly measure the performance of their workforce, preferring a series of box-ticking exercises over meaningful engagement with people below them in the pyramid. Many managers are happy to see the conscientious people carry the rest of the workforce rather than effectively deal with the slackers and lead-swingers" This is very true. Their main concern is keeping the people above them happy by not telling them how bad things below them are.

"I work with a group of youngsters. If your face doesn't fit, or your not good at your job. Goodbye. Thankfully, I don't give a damm about them. Because if they try and pass off shoddy work. They get it thrown back at them.....some of the bollox they come out with: Assemblies that have gaps in them (I can't get it to fit, is that OK?) Nope. But they are getting better.....and I'm learning off them sometimes....but bloody hell can they talk." You would like an uncaring boss. I give a huge damn about my team, I am nothing without them.

"I don’t really care how often someone has a doctor’s appointment or even what time I they start:/finish, they have performance objectives but I track carefully and we have a monthly one-to-one. I always ask questions like are you staying or going? If you are staying you’ll be rewarded well , have fun and adventures, travel but I expect high levels, it will be hard sometimes, there’s no room, you’ll be supported, but no room for mediocrity, laziness, procrastination or you will be going , and fast! it’s your choice " and its great but it's finding that quality of worker in the first place, there are many that have more reasons for not doing things. to actually find someone to takes pride in what they do and works over and above what is expected because of that pride, is really hard. It costs as much to train a good worker as it does a bad one, and often you dont realise how mediocre the are until its too late. Many can talk the talk!!

"You would like an uncaring boss. I give a huge damn about my team, I am nothing without them." Bosses at whatever age, my current boss is in his early 30's, whether they are caring or uncaring, are of no concern to me. What they need to be, is know their 'onions.' First and foremost....and never micro manage.

I work with a fair few folk in their 20's & they all have this attitude. They must instil it in them at school, 'cos they sure don't teach them basic grammar or maths ![]()

"Our human ingenuity is geared towards doing as little as possible and avoiding any liability that may arise from the consequences, by passing the buck onto someone else." I think some (maybe a lot) of people are wired that way but others have different motivations. Some people genuinely want to make a difference or maybe they see the job as part of a wider thing that they care about. In my experience you want to find the people who care, for whatever reason, and then nuture them. The rest can just fuck off.

Something else you youngsters are woefully bereft of. I've worked my ass off since I was 18, sometimes in jobs that made me ill. Many a time crying into my pillow at night because I hated my job. I worked hard and moved on to better things. Maybe try that instead of whining about folk my age ![]()

I can’t refund all those years but it might be helpful to come to terms with the fact that rich people fucked your life. Not young people.

And having working primarily in public service all my life, it ain't the rich who have "fucked" me. Indeed, as I said, I don't blame anybody for the choices I have made. If anybody has "fucked" me over the years, it's the lazy fuckers that this thread was alluding to. And I'll say it again, in case youre struggling to keep up - the vast majority are young 'uns. Do yourself a favour & get out of the blame culture. Its very liberating. And it may just make your "senior" colleagues very happy ![]()

Free Healthcare- top of the line stuff. Excellent schools. And always ALWAYS everyone goes OUT for lunch between 12 - 2. They even use government subsidized lunch vouchers so that the local restaurants and cafés get the business... I hate the British and especially the American model of working your arse off with no holidays.

We have to make up any "lost" time though.

"I'm very glad that my work doesn't directly depend on others and they don't directly depend on me. I have my own responsibilities which I do to the best of my ability (which is very good - I'm seriously good at what I do). I work hard for my own satisfaction these days, not because of external expectations. Slightly off-topic as it's not laziness, but I do like the fact that the youg'uns won't be exploited the way that I was in my 20s. I worked round the clock for companies who would promise promotions and raises that never materialised, I've been made redundant without a second thought, I've been expected to be grateful for the bullshit unpaid promotion that's just a change in title, I've done the work of a full team and when I've moved on a company once had to hire three people to fill the role I held down even though they didn't have the money for the 5% raise I'd requested. Nobody should have to put up with that. I love my grad trainees for being far more savvy to corporate bullshit than I was!" Agreed! ![]()
