"Who else agrees that it should be closed on a sunday? I never do any shopping on sundays. I think it is a good idea to have one day a week with no trading, imagine how tranquil it would be when going out " No! I think that any shop or business should be able to open whatever hours they choose on any day of the week. Early closing on a sunday is enough of a pain, especially for being unable to get something in an emergency. Cal

Last time it was voted on in parliament… as it’s not the church that makes the decision… it was mostly the Scottish MPs that voted not to extend Sunday trading laws in England…. Which on every level is wrong tbh. 24/7 trading for me. Supply and Demand

"When Sunday closing was a thing it was much more tranquil I agree. The genie is out of the lamp though and it's never going back. Besides I think it's much more convenient for people who work unsocial hours. What I would like to see is an end to boxing day sales. Let retail workers enjoy Christmas without having to get up at the crack of dawn on 26th December to sell people televisions" This Sunday is pretty much the only day I do my shopping on, food, clothing etc. I also think New Year’s Day shops should be closed and perhaps a few of the spring/summer bank holidays.

"So in that case then, Drs, dentists and pharmacies should be open 24/7…. That way no one will struggle to get appointments. " Valid point .. mind you hospitals never close or the emergency services. I do wonder how many of the ‘must stay open’ brigade have actually ever worked in retailing.

"So in that case then, Drs, dentists and pharmacies should be open 24/7…. That way no one will struggle to get appointments. " Doctors, Dentists and Pharmacists are all ALLOWED to be open 24hrs, except for Sundays when the Pharmacy must close early. Being allowed to open 24/7 doesn't mean that they HAVE to be open. Since Covid, none of the supermarkets around us open 24hrs any more, despite being allowed to. Cal

"Who else agrees that it should be closed on a sunday? I never do any shopping on sundays. I think it is a good idea to have one day a week with no trading, imagine how tranquil it would be when going out " No. I remember when shops all closed on a Sunday and many had a half day closing on a Wednesday. Not everyone works a 9-5 Monday to Friday job. Many work shifts and being able to go to the shop on their day off is important. However, I do think supermarkets shouldn't be able to sell alcohol, or that it should be restricted. Controversial I know. But if alcohol was only available in off licenses and pubs, that would not only help pubs but also live music. Both of which are in the decline.

"No I do not agree that shops should close on a Sunday. Why Sunday? Is that a subconscious , arbitrary choice.... ? I doubt it. You say it will be nice and quiet if you go out. Great..... where will you go ? If the shops close on Sunday , let's close the pubs, the swimming pools, the cinemas, the hospitals , the golf courses , the bowling alley , the doctors....... etc etc etc Let's make it really quiet. Oh ...... and lets CLOSE the internet and the dining room in your house, plus your kitchen and T.V. ...... There Done " What a good idea.

August 1994 - I was opposed to it as thought workers would be forced to work on Sunday (which for some may be the only proper day with their children - plus I do not like the large stores). However, I am a hypocrite and just today have been to B&Q, Pets@Home and Tesco

"Should churches be closed on Sunday None of that seven day Adventist shit either " I first encountered them in the West Indies when I wondered why some small businesses were closed on Saturdays. They get two sabbatical days off at weekends, theirs on Saturday and other religions' on Sundays. Win, win!
